Instructions to program OEM key fob

I decided to write an intruction to the correct way to program the stock Acura lock/unlock key fob.

Admin's, maybe a sticky would be a good idea seeing as how maybe people have asked about this operation.

INSTRUCTIONS

1998 2.5TL with factory-installed security
system

1996–98 3.2TL with factory-installed security
system

Programming the Transmitter

NOTES:

• This system accepts up to two transmitters.
• Entering the programming mode cancels all learned
transmitter codes, so none of the previously
programmed transmitters will work. You must
reprogram all the transmitters once you’re in the
programming mode.

1. Open the driver’s door.

2. Push up the driver’s door master power door lock to
the unlock position. Hold it there for the rest of this
procedure.

3. Insert the key in the ignition switch, then remove it.
Repeat this four more times within 10 seconds.
(Steps 3 and 4 must be completed within 10
seconds, or the system will exit the programming
mode.)

4. Insert the key in the ignition switch. Make sure the
power door locks cycle to indicate that the system
has entered programming mode.

5. Press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button on the
transmitter. Make sure the power door locks (all
except the driver’s door) cycle to indicate that the
transmitter has been accepted.

6. To program a second transmitter, press its “LOCK”
or “UNLOCK” button within 10 seconds.

7. Release the master power door lock switch to exit
the programming mode.

Ordering a Transmitter

Transmitters can be ordered only by authorized Acura
dealers. Order them from American Honda using
normal parts ordering procedures.

Batteries for the Transmitter

The battery number is CR2016. Each transmitter uses
two batteries.

Doesn't look like it, sorry. Only 1998 2.5 models. UNLESS there is by chance a factory installed security system already in place. Which I don't think would be likely.

1995 thru 1997 2.5 models had a dealer installed accessory kit.

I have the instructions for that if needed.

Why would the instructions be any different than the ones I posted?

FOB not working as supposed to

I got down to the last step. And after the door lock cycle sounds, I pressed the Lock button, then the "lock and unlock door" cycle. And then my doors all remaind unlock. I then release the master lock switch down. (but in your last step, after u press the Lock button, it should lock all doors). Then I pull out my key, and tried the remote, it's not working. I am not sure it's the remote i got from ebay is not working properly or something i missed. I am getting so close of getting it to work. So, i am not sure what went wrong. ???? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

99 is a 2nd generation TL.

However, here are the instructions

Programming the Transmitter

NOTES:

• This system accepts up to three transmitters. The
transmitter codes are stored in a stacking-type memory. If a fourth transmitter code is programmed, the code for the first transmitter will be erased.

• Entering the programming mode cancels all learned transmitter codes, so none of the previously programmed transmitters will work. You must reprogram all of the transmitters once you are in the programming mode.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Within 4 seconds, press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button on the transmitter. Make sure the transmitter is aimed at the receiver in the passenger’s multiplex control unit.

3. Within 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 two more times. Use the same transmitter used in step 2.

5. Within 4 seconds, turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

6. Within 4 seconds, press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button on the same transmitter. Make sure the power door locks cycle to confirm that the system is in programming mode. Press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button again.

7. Press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button on each transmitter you want to program. Make sure the power door locks cycle after you push each transmitter button to confirm that the system accepted the transmitter’s code.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to exit the programming mode.

For '95 - '97 2.5 TL's, the transmitter is not programmable as it is part of a Kenwood unit sold with it

'98 2.5 TL's get the same as the 3.2's

I don't know about that, but it works for me. I bought the remote and the dealer programmed it for me free of charge. Charge me 65$ for the remote.

The dealer had to special order it based on your control unit. The fobs are programmed by Kenwood.

I finally got mine working - 1998 3.2TL Premium. I ordered the remote from www.keylessride.com - $81 shipped. I couldn't get it to program at first and was beginning to think I didn't have a keyless module. However, here is what I found: the Step #3 above must be completed VERY, VERY quickly. At first, I did the insert-remove-5-times thing quickly but not really rushing or anything. Probably did it in 3-4 seconds. Wasn't going into programming mode. I had to go all Jet-Li on that mofo - in and out 5 times in about 2 seconds, and bingo. Anyone having trouble getting into programming mode may want to try that.

It is, but its a Kenwood system that has to be bought COMPLETE, it cannot be programmed, it is matched to the actual box/unit.

This one looks like mine. It will probably work.
