I have been using BP now for many years and no problems. I think shell just puts more money to marketing cause I see alot more shell ads then BP.

Deposit Control Standards

The standards developed by the four automobile manufacturers (BMW, General Motors, Honda, and Toyota) for TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline are described below.

.....

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers

Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards.

.....

BP obviously does not meet the standard on all grades or at all locations. Maybe their premium octane detergent package is just fine and they fall short elsewhere. :dunno:

What I do know is that my car seems to run better on Shell 93.

def gonna run shell from now on, didn't want to put exxon in anyway but it was convenience. It's weird cuz the cel is on but the navi display's nothing but the two cat code's I threw last year.:dunno:

ac08odl 12-01-2008 11:31 PM

bp all day

FiveLiterCheater 12-01-2008 11:54 PM

I use Sunoco most of the time

princelybug 12-01-2008 11:56 PM

Shell FTW.

Elegant TYPE S 12-02-2008 12:10 AM

I actually feel like I have less power when I use Shell, and more power when I use BP. I'm not even trying to be biased. When I was able to use Chevron for a short while in Miami, that was the best out of all three IMO, I could actually feel the idling of the car and pickup alot smoother with Chevron. I would definitely put Chevron at the top.

That list to me just seems like you pay to play, kind of like buying an ad in the newspaper, so I'm not going to judge based on what someone else tells me, just fill ur ride up and you be the judge.

Nasty188 12-02-2008 12:28 AM

erick3 12-02-2008 12:31 AM

Tolik 12-02-2008 07:46 AM

got no Chevron where i live

markk1661 12-02-2008 08:00 AM

Shell because BP owns Arco

CarrieLynn 12-02-2008 08:01 AM

I use Shell but I was out of town a few weeks ago, I stopped at an Exxon and the sign outside had the 3 prices for the 3 different grades, ok, fine so I went in and gave the dude $30. I come back out to pump and the pump said 87 octane on all of the nozzles, I was a bit confused  I went back inside and asked the dude about it he was like "I dunno" and he didn't speak english very well. Needless to say I asked for my $ back and found another station.

I am not too picky about what station I go to but I always use premium.

Oswald Vater 12-02-2008 08:29 AM

Chevron is my first choice - car definitely seems to run better with it. My 2nd choice is Shell. Fortunately the FL Keys where I live seem to have plenty of both available.

Best throttle response I've experienced with this car, and the only Top Tier brand available in the NYC area.

gas threads suck...

gas is cheap so why are we still posting about it

gerzand 12-02-2008 10:28 AM

First hand knowledge

I live in North East Ohio and my brother in law works for Marathon Oil. The closest oil refinery other than Marathon Oil which is right in town (Canton, Ohio) would be the BP Plant in Toledo Ohio which is a 3 hour drive in the NW corner of the state. So, to save on transportation costs, ALL companies in the area regardless of brand have been using Marathon's gas. Its just more economically feasable. So all in all, no doubt there IS a difference in the quality of gasoline from different suppliers but to all the people talking about which gas is better on a day to day basis.... you might not even know what your really getting! :tomato:

chill dude, the discussion isnt about the price, its about the quality.

MichaelBenz 12-02-2008 10:52 AM

I hear from many professional motorheads all the time on this topic. They state BP Premium fuel is the best you can get off the rack. Personally...I use Marathon most of the time due to convenience and Shell otherwise as BP pissed me off one time. Those same guys say Shell gas has a tendency to produce carbon residue more than some other brands....not sure of the validity of the statement though.

Same here.....

BEAR-AvHistory 12-02-2008 11:34 AM

Costco mostly or if I am low what ever is available. I just throw in a jug of cleaner every 10K miles & have never had a fuel problem in any car i have owned.

BTW on the guys who said BP plugs up the fuel filter on BMW, I have no experience of this happing in 60K miles & numerous tanks of BP in my 330Ci.

DavidJuch 12-02-2008 01:42 PM

Shell V-Power

lldknyll26 12-02-2008 02:02 PM

Never used shell, Shells always few cents expensive than mobil/exxon or bp. I've been using exxon/mobil for over 5yrs and recently i've been using bp. I noticed bp eats up more gas than mobil. Perhaps its just me. Power wise, they seem identical. Hardly noticable

i stoped using bp for shell due to people on this site and when i left bp i also felt the loss in power..... bp all day

1995hoo 12-02-2008 02:21 PM

I buy whatever is most convenient that is not a total no-name brand. Usually I use Sunoco because the one near Ms1995hoo's place is typically a good 12¢ a gallon cheaper for premium than the Shell and Exxon that are half a mile away. Never had any problem at all with the Sunoco, and I usually buy 91 octane there instead of 93 simply because it's 2¢ a gallon cheaper than 93 and I've never had a problem with it.

Within the past month I've bought Valero 93 once ($1.859 a gallon!) and Sheetz 93 once and had no problem with the way the car ran on either of those. I used a fair amount of Irving 93 this summer in Nova Scotia and it seemed fine as well.

I've also used Liberty 93 a couple of times based on comments from friends that the gas was fine and I didn't have any problems. I had been suspicious because it was substantially cheaper than the nearby Shell and BP stations.

I don't usually use BP simply because the two BPs closest to my house are more expensive than the other stations in the area.

markbento 12-03-2008 07:09 AM

shell beats them all the rest suck

BP and Shell are both good.
Stop reading bullshit websites.

I use BP, Exxon, Shell. BP when in NY, Exxon/Shell in NJ... and only at the busiest stations for fresher content.
