TorontoTL 01-04-2004 07:49 AM

When the TL was first introduced, it was said that it stood for Touring Luxury. But in Reality I don't think that the names now stand for anything really.

acur8ly 01-04-2004 08:03 AM

Refined Luxary.

Ken1997TL 01-04-2004 08:23 AM

CL = Coupe Luxury
TL = Touring Luxury

Those are the official designations from Acura according to their press releases.

mitchdeerfield 01-04-2004 08:46 AM

RL= Refined Luxury ??

maybe that is the reason no one buys the RL . . . . it has a dumb name . .

:D

mitchdeerfield 01-04-2004 08:47 AM

TSX = ?

Totally Stupid Excuse

for a European Accord . . .

michael3314 01-04-2004 08:51 AM

Bought an RL five years ago because I couldn't get a TL. Best car I have ever owned. Not a sports car like the TL, but the very best Acura has to offer. Was a joy to drive. Very refined and predictable. If the cost wasn't so high I would buy another.

larrynimmo 01-04-2004 09:16 AM

TL stands for "toy legend" RL stands for "real legend"

Peters 01-04-2004 09:45 AM

Tough Luck? - If you've got an early build with bad tires.

More likely Honda's extreme stubborness over not putting a V-8 in the thing.

vtec 6300 01-06-2004 02:23 PM

TS is the body Style and the X=Sport

6spdzoomzoom 01-06-2004 04:19 PM

X always stands for Sport. Why do I know this. When I owend my TSX the forum went round and round about this.

mitchdeerfield 01-06-2004 05:22 PM

Actually, X always stood for Experimental . . . at least that is what I thought was used during the development of jet aircraft.

What they really are.....

RL--"Real Legend" (as someone earlier said)
TL--"Toy Legend" (as someone earlier said)
CL--"Couple Legend"
These were not published by Acura. However, when speaking with Dealer folks over the years, these were the norm.:D

Mr.President 12-10-2009 10:37 AM

I always wondered what TL stood for..... what does the S stand for in TL-type S.... I see S in alot of vehicle names..... OOOHHHHH I just figured it out...... SPORT..... I feel sooooo dumb

laidback93 12-10-2009 10:41 AM

Oooh, does that mean that the 'R' in Type-R stands for Rice..., er I mean Racer?

Sorry I just had to go there!

kubr1ck 12-10-2009 10:49 AM

Acura ditched names for letters so that buyers would focus on the Acura brand rather than specific models. It's a smart move, especially if they're gunning for the Germans, where brand is everything.

arrogantbastard 12-10-2009 10:50 AM

wow. major thread revival...

TL: the Thread Lives

elkechon 12-10-2009 10:55 AM

TL- Throw away all your hard earned money in this modding game.. Luxury
yup that's it

Yeah I suppose, but I am really sick of it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Acura brough back the Legend name it would probably fly off lots.

Majofo 12-10-2009 01:32 PM

I like to think it's..

Timeless Legend

wall e 12-10-2009 01:53 PM
