B Service
Hey,
Does anyone know what they do for a "B" service. I got about 11,000 miles and on the display it says "Service Due Soon B". I called Stevens Creek Acura and they said the service would cost 300 dollars. This seems really steep. How much are you guys paying for "B" service ? Thanks. Appreciate it. |
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Rotate tires Inspect front and rear brakes Check parking brake adjustment Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots Inspect suspension components Inspect driveshaft boots Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS) Inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids Inspect exhaust system# Inspect fuel lines and connections# It shouldn't cost more than $80 (at least that's what I paid for B). |
My B service was $86 and change ..... Ask your service rep what's done and how they can charge 3X as much for the same service as other dealers. Or just get a quote for an oil/filter change, and then pop the question, "How come it costs $250 to perform a visual inspection of those items mentioned above".
|
Just had B service on my 05 TL 2 weeks ago. It cost me $130. $300 is a total rip off. Best thing to do is to call Acura dealers close to your place and check their prices. You'll be suprised, eventhough their just 5 miles apart, dealer a charges at least $25 dollars more than delaer b.
|
I just the B service for $147, at about 17K miles.
|
About $135
|
Just had mine today. $135 for that part of the service.
|
I just did my B service today at Acura of Boston. It was $99. They had to special order me a new center arm rest to fix a creaking noise, a new steering wheel bulb that had burned out and lubed the door seals with a graphite spray to get rid of the rubbing noise they were making. Price seemed pretty fair.

I just bought 06 acura TL black on black :-) 13K miles on and got that message B service soon :-(
have a question why should I pay at least dealer $80 for a visual check up? I know that I need oil change and maybe brake pads change but other than that there is nothing wrong with the car and I can check those things myself! friend of mine bought one of those genysis scan things so I can just ask him to run diagnostic! what you thoughts guys on this? |

just change oil, rot tires and you will be fine.
|
The dealer I work for includes a balance with the b service, as well as replacing wiper inserts
|
my light just came on for the B service and i'm at 39.5k miles...
is there something wrong with that? seems like the average is around 17k on here and well yeah. |

Save your money people. Service B is just another way for the Stealerships to make money from you.
You can do all those things on your own. Like Charles said if you go to Firestone, Good Year, Mavis etc....to have your oil changed, all those things that the Stealerships do are done for free at these locations. You can find an easy to do DIY on how to change your cabin filter. It wont take more then 1hour to do. Most of the time is actually cutting out the hole so the next time you need to replace your cabin filter you dont need to do the same procedure. If money is no object to you then let the stealership take your money. |

. Ed Napleton quoted me $132 McGrath of Morton Grove quoted me $269 Pauly Acura quoted me $165 Libertyville Acura quoted me $36.95. I think we have a winner! Libertyville Acura has a new pricing structure because they are "Acura Accelerated Service" shop. Anyways, thanks for encouraging me to shop around. :) |
????how????
I've been going to Muller Acura (Schaumburg, IL.) since I bought my car there. I haven't paid more than $40 for ANYTHING i've had done. I'm at 34K miles, right now.
Oil change = $40-ish Tire Rotation = $40-ish Air Cabin filter = $20 DIY ($108 if done by dealer) As far as charging for Inspecting "things"... that's a joke. I doubt they really look at anything on a 2007+ model, anyways. Just tell them you want an oil change... and you're probably due for a tire rotation. $80 and you're done. If they say $300 for that, request to speak to the service manager... or leave and go somewhere else. |
So i just took my 05 TL in for a B service. They said I need a new Battery ($129), cabin/engine filters need replaced($58), Front and Rear Brakes are at 3mm and should be replaced ($290 and $250). Transmission Fluid Flush ($90) and Brake fluid Flush ($137). Should i get these things done at this dealer or should i shop around?
I probably could do the battery myself. |
$129 for another Acura battery is too much. They are known to be junk. Price on filters sounds about right, but both are really easy. Brakes for $540? I replaced all 4 rotors and pads with RacingBrake stuff, stainless braided lines and DOT4 fluid flush for about that much. Trans fluid flush is just a drain and fill. If you're ambitious, 3x drain and fill costs about $75 in fluid. If you can change oil, trans fluid change is not much more difficult. Consider the miles on your car and do what the maintenance minder says to do. If it doesn't call for all that stuff, it's up to you.

I probably could do the battery myself. Acura dealer in NJ: $190. brake job (front or rear) with rotor resurfacing. $60. ATF drain and refill (3 quarts) $35. oil change $115. brake fluid service |
I switched to my local Honda dealership (Scott Robinson). They do the same factory authorized service for less cost and have, in some ways, a nicer waiting area. And they have a discount program.

Why do you wanna do any services at acura period? Any oil change places will check for basics...if something is worn out and needs replacement, you'll have to pay for it regardless at one point in time, so why pay Acura dealers for something like that?
Let's say your brakes are worn out...finding that out at acura doesn't do any good to you. If they need to be replaced, you will have to pay for them, and having acura do that for you will also cost you an arm and a leg...me personally I can't stand dealers. I would let them do something major while under warranty...like a motor/tranny related problem, but not oil changes and inspections. It's ridiculous. Some people are sold into the fact that Acura mechanics/service is better than other mechanics. It's not!...they're just mechanics. These are very simple basic things. |
I agree. Local dealer want's $99 for a simple "B" service. There's a local garage that specialized in Acura and Honda service. There it's only $40. Plus it's a local independent shop - think globally, buy locally. While my car was under warranty I always brought it into the dealer. Once the warranty was up - adios stealership.
|
how do you erase the message off your dash?
|
When you're on that screen, press the reset button and hold it until it resets itself. Bear in mind that tells the car that you've gotten that service done, so make sure you do. I leave mine on so that it keeps annoying me until I go and get it done. I get annoyed easily, so it only takes a day or so before I make the appointment.
|
Maybe you should look in your owners manual.

For a dealer I suppose that's not bad, but I still think any reputable shop can do the exact same thing for under $100, unless you're getting synthetic oil.
No, no I agree. I wouldn't take my car in and pay those fees. I was just letting AZ know what the B service costs in Boston. I rotate my own tires and have a local indy shop do whatever I don't / won't tackle on my own. I go to the dealer only for warranty work - I have an extended Acura warranty. |
B Service on 2015 RDX
Have 5,800 miles on my car when service due warning light came on.
King Acura in Birmingham, AL quoted me a price of $115 plus tax which puts it around $125. I am going to check the local Firestone and NTB dealer for a quote. |
