Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus or Primacy MXM4
I've been reading the reviews on these two tires and can't decide on which one is better. Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards the Primacy MXM4
Also, I've searched extensively and know someone will recommend the Continental DWS, so don't.

They're very different tires. The Primacy MXM4 is relatively new and has very few review miles at Tirerack (barely 500,000 miles - very low). It's predecessor, the Pilot MXM4, was a crap compromise that couldn't do anything very well.

The Pilot Sport A/S Plus on the other hand is an update on the Pilot Sport A/S and both are/were very well rated in their catagory.

Primacy MXM4 is a Grand Touring (GT) All Season category. Grand Touring tires are not meant for performance and more meant for the everyday driver that values treadwear, fuel economy, and quietness over performance. If you liked the MXV4, than you'll probably like the MXM4. The MXM4 will likely do better in the snow with its tread design.
The Pilot Sport A/S Plus being in the Ultra High Performance All Season category is made to be as close to ultra high performance summer tire without sacrificing the all weather capability. They will probably be noisier than the MXM4 but will offer much more traction at the limits - even in the rain.
If it were me, I'd buy the Pilot Sport A/S Plus or any tire in the Ultra High Performance A/S category before the Primacy MXM4...

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm replacing the the original Pilot HX MXM4, where were terrible in the snow. I thought they handled well in both dry and rain.
So you're saying the Pilot Sport would offer a slightly harsher ride, louder noise but better handling in both dry, rain and snow?

Depends on what you value most. If you want treadwear, comfort and quietness then the MXM4 is the ticket. It is supposed to be a much better tire than the MXV4. Look at the reviews on Tire Rack. It ranks very high. Its probably my next tire. Also call Tire Rack and talk to a rep. They are very helpful.

Regards tread wear. Both the Pilot AS Plus and the Primacy MXM4 have 45,000 mile tread life warranty for the TL's recommended speed and load rating.
Further they are both UTOG rated for tread at "500". Since this rating is a relative comparision of Michelin tires to other Michelin tires, you can assume the tread wear is about the same (I should say, "expected" to be about the same).

Take into account your driving style and how important each trait of the tire is to you. The Pilot Sports are without a doubt a slight compromise to the OE tires for noise, harshness, and MPG. I do not drive my car hard these days and I would have preferred to have stayed with a Grand Touring tire over these Ultra Performance All Season tires. My next set of tires will be back in the Grand Touring class for sure. Others may/will disagree...but that is why we all have so many choices.

The more I've thought about it, the more I'm leaning towards the Primacy. I live in NYC (but spend some time in Jersey as well), so not too many chances to drive at the limits. The streets are pretty clear in the winter, and I've never felt like I lost control during 'spirited' driving with the OE HX MXM4.

but will give me longer more predictable life. a/s sport is definitely best
tire for 06 tl 6 spd. package, but don't want uni-directional wear patterns
which reduce tire advantage thru tire life. Let me know if anyone can

The OEM Pilot MXM4 would have lasted well over 50K miles, but I replaced them @ 48K with the Yokohama Advan S.4, which lasted over 40K miles.
The Advan S.4 tires were replaced by the current Bridgestone Potenza RE970 A/S Pole Positions, which are now wearing slowly and evenly.
The tires, directional or otherwise, will wear evenly as long as the alignment and tire pressure are proper. FWIW, I only had 2 or 3 alignments during the first two sets of tires.
