When the TL was first introduced, it was said that it stood for Touring Luxury. But in Reality I don't think that the names now stand for anything really.

CL = Coupe Luxury
TL = Touring Luxury

Those are the official designations from Acura according to their press releases.

Bought an RL five years ago because I couldn't get a TL. Best car I have ever owned. Not a sports car like the TL, but the very best Acura has to offer. Was a joy to drive. Very refined and predictable. If the cost wasn't so high I would buy another.

More likely Honda's extreme stubborness over not putting a V-8 in the thing.

Actually, X always stood for Experimental . . . at least that is what I thought was used during the development of jet aircraft.

What they really are.....

RL--"Real Legend" (as someone earlier said)
TL--"Toy Legend" (as someone earlier said)
CL--"Couple Legend"
These were not published by Acura. However, when speaking with Dealer folks over the years, these were the norm.

Acura ditched names for letters so that buyers would focus on the Acura brand rather than specific models. It's a smart move, especially if they're gunning for the Germans, where brand is everything.

Yeah I suppose, but I am really sick of it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Acura brough back the Legend name it would probably fly off lots.
