Transmission does not shift from Parking after ignition
Acura 96, 2.5 TL 135K miles. Auto Transmission.
Some times I am experiencing this strange problem. When I start my Car, Auto transmission doesnot shoft from Parking to Drive. Some time it shift very immediately. But some time I have wait little longer. But today it took almost 20 minutes to shift it from PArking after I tried on-off many time, but after that it worked as normal.
One more issue is, few of the time i feel it is little hard to shift transmission from parking as well. otherwise is it is very smooth. Any clue...!

When I start my Ingination - Engine starts - Break Press, transmission does not come into Drive from Parking.
Sometime it comes immediatly after engine starts(and break press). But some time it takes too log to come out of Parking. If I press the "Release - a small socket" just next to Transmission, it does release from parking and can atek it to Drive/or any gear position.

alright that your break switch.. do you hear a click when pressing your breaks, if you dont hear it , den your need to replace your breakswitch
also check your horn fuse, check if thats broken, that can cause your shift gears to not switch,

I had this problem come up recently. There is a transmission lock solenoid which releases when you push on the brakes. If you just follow the lever up from the pedal you will see it. There a 12mm? nut on one side of a bracket that you adjust to make sure the lever doesn't touch the solenoid when you press the brake pedal. That's it. Should take 10 minutes most of which is squirming into the right position and finding the solenoid w/ flashlight. Goodluck.

Yap, that was a solenoid (switch) problem. I tried open it once. But after that it get fixed. May be alignment issue. I observe that if gear get stuck in parking, then just push-back break padel couple of time and it will release the transmission most of the time. Thanks for all the info.

when the brake interlock is working-meaning it wont shift out of park and you have to use the override-by putting the car key into the slot next to the shifter -and push DOWN then shift to N,
it is to keep you from driving with no brake lights! if the systems think there are no brake lights for any reason, it will keep you from driving off~
check the brake lights first- are all of them working? each bulb and the 3rd brakelight yes?
Ok, now look at the switch behind the brake pedal- they wear out after years of use
May be adjusted or cleaned but better to replace and then its fixed!
Winter is a bad time to have staring problems~
Cheap part- easy to fix, happens to the newer TLs a lot too
Do NOT keep cranking the engine = it will shorten the life of the starter and battery

andrew070489 - Thanks for suggestion. But I could not get what you are trying to say for following
-Custom Oil Catch
-Custom CAI
-%35 tints all around
Please explain.
01tl4tl - That was good info. Thanks for it. I did check, but 3rd Breaklight is gone. I am planning to change Solenoid-Break sw.
Thanks.

Your brake light switch may be intermittently sticking in the open position. Mine did the same. You will see the switch is difficult to access. Because of this I tried spraying generously w/ a light lubricant (WD40) to loosen the mechanism. This worked permanently and problem has not returned.
good luck
