VSA Check Engine - Code: P2138

This might be related to another issue that I had fixed which can be read here:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/vtec-solenoid-issue-p2649-815154/

The result of the issue in the above thread was that the VTEC solenoid had to be replaced because the wire was cut too close to the solenoid. I later found out that this is common when the timing belt is changed and not put back together properly as it puts too much tension/strain on the wire if done incorrectly.

Nevertheless, now I have a new problem but the dash lights are the same.

Earlier this week I was driving and the check engine light came on as well as the VSA light. The car would not accelerate beyond 1,500 RPM. I can't describe how dangerous this is as you literally can run faster than the car can accelerate.

After turning off the car, the VSA light went away and acceleration was back to normal but the check engine light was still on. I had to turn the car off once more and the check engine light cleared as well.

Last night the same thing happened. I turned off the car, which got rid of the VSA light, and went to Autozone with the check engine light on. They coded it as the following:

P2138
1/2 incorrect voltage correlation

Probable cause:
open or short circuit condition
poor electrical connection
failed APP sensor

It just happened again pulling onto my street on the way home from work. The scary part is that I'm leaving in about 20 minutes for a 5.5 hour drive and I can only hope this doesn't happen on one of the busiest weekends to be on the road. I might just get a rental car.

From the post above I have tried looking from with the hood up to see if I can find the wire coming up from the VTEC solenoid thinking maybe this was just look at a connector. It is very difficult to see and I can't trace the solenoid wire. If anyone has any suggestions on how to trace this wire or where the connector is that would be great. I'm not certain that this is the cause but it seems like my natural place to start given that this is again somewhat similar symptoms (although worse) to the issue in the above thread.

Thanks!

I dont think it relates to your prior problem...its your APP sensor.....I actually just did mine a few weeks ago, mine did the same thing your car is doing now. Got it scanned, code P2138. It is a fairly common problem.

heres a diy.....https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=app+sensor

Thank you very much for the info and link!

I only just finally got this part yesterday and replaced it in about 20 minutes. Car been running great for two days now. I really thought this was a big problem, felt like transmission or clutch issue, but those symptoms are completely gone.

Thanks again!

If you have the check engine light on, goto an autozone or equivalent and get the code.

The lights you are getting are similar to a different issue I had, but it also had "limp mode" in that it couldn't go past a couple thousand RPM. Ended up having to replace the VTEC solenoid.
