Kept up with an S550!!

He cut me off and then slowed down, so i changed lanes. he then floored it (as did I) he got about a 1/4 car length on me from 70 to 80. but from then to 155 it was pretty even. I cant believe that just happened! Guess TL's are pretty fast

He should've pulled on you a bit more than that. But, whoever floored it first has a noticeable advantage. Nice, nonetheless!

he probobly was not flooring it but was giving it enough gas to hang with you. Those are beasts for their size. He would run mid 13's with traps in the 106+ range. Sounds fun none the less!

While it's capable of mid-upper 13s, they're not trapping 106+ mph. That said, the S550 is governed at ~130mph so, I'm at a loss for the 155mph claim by the OP.

I am not 100% on this but I think that the S550 models with all season tires are governed at 130. Models with the AMG HPT and rim package are good for 155.

The S600 is cut off at 130 but is set to get a HPT option late 09. Likewise the S63 AMG with the performance package adds a limited slip and raises the top speed from 155 to 186.

Yep, they're limited to 130mph. They'll go past 130mph pretty easily, but the soft limiter will bring it back down to 130mph.

yes you are right on the trap speed. I realized I looked up the SL550 lol. On drag times the SL550 stock ran a 13.39 @105MPH and 13.51 at 106.03. The S550 must weigh a little more. I found 13.7 at 103 to be about the fastest S550 stock that I saw on the internet. Maybe there isn't many people drag racing them at the track. The extra weight slows it down quite a bit compared to the SL.

Many of the people I've seen who come to the track with Luxo type sedans (i.e.: 5-series/7-series/E-S Class) usually have something quicker in their garage as well but were just curious as to what these can do @ the track.

That said, there are many folks who'd question why anyone would track a TL, regardless of it being a Type S 6MT.

do you guys know if my 2008 TL-S has a governer on it? I was messing around with my brother in law the other day on the interstate, he has some mods on an 06 Maxima, i did start pulling away substantially. I dont really watch the speed but it felt like I hit a limited maybe at about 130mph. My 05 TL did not have one, my top speed in that was about 145 driving through Wyoming. I figured its safer if I ask...if no one knows I'm gonna have to try it again

It didn't.

What I was saying is why wouldn't people bring their luxury cars to the track? I bring my Grocery Getter 2 door accord so why wouldn't people bring their nice luxury cars, trucks, roadsters, SUV's and so on. It is all about the fun! Not trying to class my accord with luxury cars however it is very luxurious for what it is! Best interior in its class IMO!
