Fuel Cap Issue's

So Tonight The Dash Said The Fuel Cap Was Not On Right, So I Checked The Cap And All Seemed Fine. Doesnt Make Sense? My Question What Other Things Could Make This Pop Up All Of A Sudden?
Thanks

gas cap must be on 3 clicks minimum to ensure the sealed air system is working.

i am also getting that message i just cameback from the service. they couldnt do it on the weekend so i schedule appointment during the weekdays. the messsage is "Tighten Gas Cap" i have that problem for 2 or3 month comes on and off. i replaced the gas cap and light still comes on .... so they have to do the vacuum test and other tests. they got techline involved in the case. so lets see what happens after Aug 4 2008

it doesn't matter how you drive. One of the sensors that detect fuel leakage (fumes) might be bad.

Modern cars are mandated to have a system to test that the gas tank holds pressure, then burn fumes in the engine once its warmed up.

You have a test pump, pressure sensors, plus the purge valve, charcoal cannister, all sorts on hoses, check valves, pressure valves, and so on....

A leak anyplace, or a bad/dirty valve, bad gas cap, can cause problems, as can topping up.
Topping up is BAD, as liquid gets into all the stuff and can cause problems.

I had the same problem on my passat (at one year old), I never found the problem, but plugged the test pump to trick the system into thinking everything was ok, and traded the car in on the TL.

Id disconnect the battery during dinner or something and let the computer die out....afterwards reconnect the battery and obviously make sure the cap is on tight and start the car....it happened to me a few times and since i reset the computer it hasnt done it.

Update?

Amer, did anything happen on the 4th? I'm taking my car in (maybe tomorrow) for the same problem. This will be the 3rd time they looked at it. The first time they said it was a bad gas cap so they replaced it. The 2nd time the service advisor didn't seem to want to take it in. Wanted to tell me that I should just tighten it.

This time I'm armed with a spreadsheet that shows mileage and fuel levels when it comes on and off. We'll see what they have to say. I was hoping to see if anyone had any updates before I go in.

I also replaced the gas cap but didnt help. My car is still in the shop. Took it monday and they said they found small leak by the fuel filler neck that goes from gas cap to the the reservor. They are going to replace the fuel filler neck and recheck for leaks and drive the vehicle.

They worked with techline and they are awear of this problem so they have to fallow these steps and procedures of testing components out that techline gives them to trace this problem.

Well I guess it's a good thing that they actually found a problem, so hopefully the "fix" will take care of it. I'm going to take mine in either tomorrow or Friday and let them work on it, although I hope I don't have to go without it for too long.

We both have NBP TL-S's, I wonder if this problem is specific to that color.

I know color has nothing to do with the fuel system, but it does make you go hmmmm?

I got the same response today. They did a smoke test and found the problem in the fuel filler neck. Unfortunately it is a special order part and it won't be in until some time next week. They want to keep it for a few hours after the work is done to make sure it doesn't repeat.

Mine was fixed yesterday. For the last 24 hours, I've had no fuel cap warnings!!!!!!! I wonder if they just disabled or removed the bulb?

yes- they removed the bulb- thats definetly what they did!
Who cares if it wont pass smog and drives bad- its out of the shop- that all they care!

NOTE: above statement meant to be in color RED for sarcasm

There seem to have been a run of cars with bad filler necks- you guys should compare production dates- and the ziners who are still waiting to go to dealer- call and make a file with acura 1-800-382-2238 x5 documentring the problem
If this is widespread, a recall is needed- or if its a certain vin range, acura can do a tech bulletin with goodwill warranty on the repair
