C...Ya!

I've enjoyed my time on this forum. Many here may have noticed that my activity here dropped off a lot in the past year. Been working in Germany since the beginning of the year and therefore and have now gotten the BMW bug. I will be putting my TL up for sale this week (check the classifieds for any details). I'll be picking up a 2007 used B7 Alpina in about a week.

I previously owned a 740iL some 10 years ago and missed the car enough that I started looking at them again. I sold that car for a used CLK55 and the reasons were obvious, but we did miss her. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons I bought the TL in the first place was that it had so many things in common with that BMW (hands-free cellular, 275HP engine, sporty handling, stylish design, etc).

I too did not know what an Alpina was until I saw one on the road in Stuttgart. I started digging around over there and decided that I would try to find one when I got back in the States. They are VERY expensive brand new in both countries ($125K here) so that was (obviously) out.

However, I was able to find one here in the States and we came (I think) to a deal but I have not yet seen the car in person yet so there "could" still be about a 5% chance of a problem but the bottom line is that it is about 50% of the new costs as a used version with 20K miles on it so I am "hyped" and can not wait until the weekend.

I'll take pics and add them to this thread when I pick her up....

I wondered where you went. Alpina is one of a few aftermarket companies that actually improve the car, not ruin it. Very nice pick up.

Update - It appears that my Alpina deal probably isn't going to happen for me We came VERY close on price (considering) but he wants to sell a set of winter tires along with the car (because they are designed for the car) but living in the south, I can't really make any use of them. They add another $3K to the cars price so when it's all said and done we are $5K off instead of the more manageable $2K I was willing to write the check for. The bottom line is that the final $57K price tag is simply outside my comfort zone. I had given myself a $52K MAX price for a fully equipped low-milage '07 750Li and this 750i/Alpina would have fit nicely into that slot (Even @ $54K). However, $57K plus taxes, tags, etc simply removes it from my budget. I am still trying to see if there is a way to do it (i.e. If I can make $5K on stock option trading this week, then I am all set but the odds of that are pretty low without a TON of risk). These fine details were one of the reasons I have not yet listed my TL for sale.

So, it looks like I will most likely end up with the '06 750Li I have lined up as a backup in the event that this deal fell through. It has 39K miles, nearly every option (including the rear seat entertainment) and is covered by BMW's CPO plan until 2012. Price tag is..well, about $15K less than the final price of the Alpina.

CSmeance - Any advice on what I should look for on this optional '06? It's CPO so as long as it hasn't been driven by a heavy smoker, I think I'll probably end up with it.

Couldn't you get the Alpina w/ the winter tires and just sell those on your own afterwards? Or even convince the guy to sell them separately.

+1

And the tires weren't made for that car. They will fit on any rim that's the same size and on any car that accommodates their overall size. Nobody made a tire just for a limited production vehicle like an Alpina 750. He needs to keep them and sell them as he would have an easier time selling them. He's up north, just like lots of other people with 750's who might need snow tires. Nobody here needs snow tires, so you'd have zero chance of unloading them without dealing with shipping.

You guys are correct in that they are not particularly "special". The wheels are the standard BMW 7-series wheel. I checked on eBay and liquidation value is around $1,200 for the set. In the winter time I could get around $800 for the tires themselves so that means that the "liquidation" price of the winter tire "accessories" would be around $2,000.

However, with this type of car the seller isn't going to be as "flexible" as someone selling a TL. "parting out" isn't really in the vocabulary of guys with $250K+/year salaries. Sometimes that is good and sometimes it's bad. Its good in that he can easily "dump" a $125K car on the market for a $50K-$60K price tag when he could probably get more if he "waited out the market". Bottom line is that he will do whatever is "easiest" at the cost of proceeds. Bottom line was If you want it, it's $57K...that's it. Just let me know if you want to give a deposit to hold it or not....period. If I don't buy it today, he's got other people flying in on the weekend.

Don't worry. I've got 20 years on you. By the time you get to be my age, you'll be able to relate. I've been lucky enough to have found success in my industry.

I signed the paperwork on the blk '06 tonight and should be picking her up on Saturday after I have finished with this sales training camp I am in. I'll post pics but in the meantime see my sig below for a few details.

No mods, just pics

Hey guys. It's been a week so I figure I owe you guys the pics I promised before. It's a black 750Li with a creme/black interior. That means that it has the creme seats but the floor mats and all are black. It does have the rear shades and the rear entertainment DVD player so the kids are "giddy" over those things. No tint, no wheels, no mods of any kind...yet. I did have an EXCELLENT line on a set of Maya STM's for this car for only $1K but bowed to the WAF and agreed to drive a while on the stock wheels/tires (the stock ones are the upgraded 19-inch wheels so it's kind of a compromise already).

Since the TL is gone, I won't be on here much any more. If anyone wants to reach me, look me up on either Facebook or LinkdIn.
