Replace wheel bearing or wheel hub?

So my wheel bearing is gone, i hear howling noise from the back passenger side. But is it easier to replace the wheel bearing itself or the wheel hub which i assume includes the wheel bearing inside?

Did you inspect the tire to make sure it isn't cupped? Just a thought ..

For the rear, a quick look indicates the hub/bearing is sold as an unit, @ $30/up.

I am now having the same issue. I believe that i am going to have to replace the front bearings and the rear hub assembly. Has anyone gotten a quote on how much it will cost to replace all 4?

Either way rear hub is less than 100 to do yourself....

Certain tires when worn will make a sound quite like a bad wheel bearing, as it will even change noise pitch when going over dips in the road when the body weight comes down similar to a bad bearing.

Although tires were switched, I'd still place the spare on the offending side just to be sure.

I replaced both rear bearing/hub assemblies myself last year. They were Timken units from Amazon. About $75-80 each. I went ahead and replaced my rear rotors, pads, and brake hardware since they had to come off anyway. In hindsight, I'd probably just replace the pads and brake hardware because the rotors were fine.

I rented a three-jaw puller from autozone but I hardly needed it. The hub assembly came off with little force. I've seen horror stories where the inner bearing race stayed on the spindle and that requires some creative thinking to get it off.

This video from Eric the Car Guy was helpful for me.
