This morning I was driving like a good citizen in the rush hour heading to work this mornin'. This guy in the ~'05 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi (240hp / 280lb tq) kept tailing me. It was like a harassment. I kept saying "get off my ass... leave me alone". I was going 70 mph at the time in the farthest inside lane keeping pace with the cars in front. I sped up a bit and passed a few cars in front me in the middle lane. The Bonneville guy went for a hot Lexus pursuit. I slowed down for car in front of me (all lanes blocked by cars). Bonneville guy was coming from behind charging up his engine... The car in front of me cleared out of my way, I had it in 4th gear in S mode, and sped up. The Bonneville guy already had more momentum because he was coming from behind without braking. He went WOT right before I sped up.... Guess what happened?

p.s. 4th gear at around 70 mph is below power band, but the car's incredibly tight gearing and throttle response I am able to use 4th gear to do some real spirited driving. I could have downshifted to 3rd gear but I didn't feel like pushing my car to the limit, and more gas and more wear on the train.

I didn't give you multiple choice question. This is a fill out answer and I expect you to use some *creativity* to make answer more fun, but realistic. It should be a paragraph long... C'mon guys entertain me.

Hint, it was a roll from 70~ 125mph.


This Bonneville is the top of the line model SSEi (supercharged) and has 280lb-ft tq. It's about as fast as 3rd gen TL 5AT. The SSEi has way more torque and I would think it would actually start pulling on the TL 5AT at 4th gear@ 111 mph. Besides... if you go forums for Bonneville and such, you'll see all sorts of racing stories of how they beat a faster car. I had Dodge Stratus that tried to race me when I was in my MS3.

Most of us in the racing forums know what the outcome would be already. Fact is that Bonneville is a high 15-second car that would barely edge out a 2G TL base.

Bonneville SSEi is good for about 15.6sec quarter mile, but I don't know man... Once you get into 4th gear at 110 mph I am afraid SSEi may start pulling on you. It has a lot more torque, and almost no difference in weight (compared to 3rd gen TL 5AT). In rolling race applications, quarter mile time from dragstrip doesn't apply. You gotta look at power output in different gears at higher speeds. From dig the TL will take the edge but in rolling speed...... different outcome.

And that's not true. I raced a latest gen Mustang GT V8 and E60 M5 from dig. I have also taken out other fast cars too including modded Mustangs.

The Need for Speed 1 I used to play was back in the early~ mid 90's. That's about the time you were on... diapers? Please don't take it personal, just saying...

I used to do nothing but play that game with my friends all night every weekend..... while blasting rap songs.

I don't play video games now. Well, except that I did play Test Drive Unlimited 1 on PC. I used to drive IS350 there and did beat Ferrari F430 bebe.... high speed pursuit! at 160 mph! (speed limiter off in this video game). But unfortunately the car I drove was a Luxury package so the handling was crap. And the acceleration was SLOWER than the real IS350. I complained to the game developer about it that it's gearing is off! I went on strike. Unfortunately this never worked. They worked on developing TDU 2 instead. But I got pissed off cause in the new game IS350 was excluded.

But that's OK. I like my real IS350 and beat a lot of cars over a page long list.

It's funny you post this. I was driving my GIRFRIEND'S (ie. the only people that should be driving IS's IMO) '10 Starfire White IS350 last night and my sister was following us in her new 2014 BMW 535xi. Didn't have any "runs", but that boat pulled on me (she was laughing at me when we got home). Every time I drive her car, I think about how funny it is that some internet idiots claim these cars are fast. I guess everyone has their standard of "fast."

You need to race a fast car and stop posting this garbage. I wish you were local, I would just have my GoPro Hero3 black pointed at your face (for the split second I could see it).

You do know that the bonneville SSEi (same engine and tranny as the GTP GP) hits its own brick wall once it hits 3rd gear right? It has even worse gearing with its 4AT than the 5AT in the Acura TL. Now a modded one is a different story, but the TL even in 4th gear at 110 will pull on a SSEi. The torque of the 3.8L supercharged engine can't make up for that crappy gearing after 2nd gear haha.

Yeah, whatever that 4AT? I believe it is that GM used in so many cars was utter garbage. I think they used it in the FWD Impala SS and the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP as well. 5AT TL would take the Bonneville.
