My 87 Legends dash look better than those. It has no cracks what so ever and it's 22 years old. I hope my 08 TL-S doesn't do this. I treat both cars with 303.

LOL, but when airbag deployed the crack are horizontal and the dash will bend.

This happened to my co-workers Hyundai Azera. I never thought it would happen on an Acura. Hopefully it doesn't happen on the TSX and you guys get your replaced for free. That sucks...

For those with cracked dashes, do you use sun shades?

damm looks like the car was parked on venus for a couple of days..

personally i never use any product on my dash, i still think the dash is paper thin regardless since i can see the outline of the passenger side airbag, so it really doesn't surprise me that the dashes are cracking.

is this only happening on the 04s? or does anyone have an 05+ with these issues

I do not, but my car is always parked in a garage or a covered parking garage when sitting for an extended period of time.

Thanks for all the replies, and keep them coming.

When it's hot outside I always try to park against the curb underneath trees, I vent my sunroof and all 4 windows, and my car is garage kept. I use a sunshade whenever I have to park in the middle of nowhere.

The thing is...my car was originally leased so Acura would have kept care of it...meaning they would have seen the cracks beginning to develop and they rather sold it to another dealership.

bimmerman: Have you contacted anybody at Acura?

For a 30k car you would think of putting a sunshade for the dash to not crack you know what im saying. i mean at 4 to 5 year old car shouldnt have this problem. my 94 nissan sentra dont even have a cracked dash and i run over manholes and ditches that makes the dash abou tto fall off lol but no cracks and from a 4 year old car that costed 30 k or less give or take shouldnt have this problem at all.

^Agreed 110%...you shouldn't have to worry about cracking dashes on this level of car....period.

Good Lord, Acura should be fixing these gratis...and quick! What a farce!
Good luck, I hope my '08 doesn't develop this problem...sunshade or not!

I know there are a few others who have had this happen, I wish they would post up so I can show this to the corp rep as well.

I have a 2004 as well...no visible cracks but then again I just might not be paying attention. After reading this thread I would sure be checking my dashboard thoroughly.

If you spot one no matter how small the larger ones are soon to follow and it seems once they start there is not much you can do to stop it.

I use my sunshade whenever it's parked in direct sunlight and if a sunshade can't stop the cracking, then 35% won't either. Tinting my windshield will not make the present cracks go away. And no way in hell am I going to tint my windshield with the way cops are around here where I live. I've gotten pulled for my LEGAL 35% four times because they thought it was illegal. I can't afford a ticket.

But don't think I'm trying to be a douche...it's a good idea, but I honestly don't think it will help

I hope members keep posting in here. I would like to get a huge list together of people with the same problem.

Tinting the windshield will not really help that much. It would keep your car cooler in the summer.

I have had a car with it tinted before and it is nice, but I would not go darker than around 50% or cops will be able to tell it is tinted.

Damn that is some jacked up shit. Ive never seen ANY car like that with cracks that huge. This is like the 2nd dash problem (the other being our airbag lining oils seeping up through the dash). Hope everyone with this problem gets it solved through Acura. That is inexcusable.

i am having a fear of this cracked dash issue on my 07 TL... i could already tell that the material that was used for the 3G dash wasn't really up to par... my car has 25k miles, is always parked in the garage and i use the sunshade if there is no shade or under cover parking... i have a really bad fading issues like many others around the passenger side airbag but no cracking yet... the 303 Aerospace protectant helps, but i can imagine that my car is prob not cracking yet because it is only driven on weekends and is always covered from the sun...

i think Acura/Honda really dropped the ball with this one... they need to own up along with the 2G TL/CL glass trannies!!!

Yea it's bullshit to say the least. I'm about to go to my local Acura dealership and ask somebody higher up who I should talk to. I haven't even had my car for a year.

I noticed the material quality on the dash go down from my previous 2G CL-S to my current 3G TL as well. The whole dash in my CL was leather (or something damn close to it) and now I have this nasty ass plastic. You are doing the right thing using sunshades, your garage, and protectant, but I've been doing the same since I got the car last June and well...the pictures speak for themselves.

My 2G CL-S had to have the tranny replaced and it was so easy. I just dropped it off and the next day it was ready. I think Acura knows about this problem, but since it doesn't affect drivability like a transmission would, they aren't going to do shit about it.

werd they say that it is visual defects? but that still doesn't make sense...

my 98 3.2TL which is 11 yrs old, 4 owners and 140+k miles on its original tranny, and not a single crack/fade anywhere in the dash?

wtf Acura?

Holy sheet. Those cracked dashes are horrific. I would be mortified if that happened to my 05 TL. I lived in San Antonio for three years and it routinely got over 100 degrees outside and 120 degrees in the car. I worked long hours and my car was out in my office parking lot baking. Not one crack. I use the standard vinyl Armoral cleaner monthly. If any dash is a good candidate for cracking, it's mine.

Unless there's more to the story, those cracks are from defects. They should be replaced. The owners need to continue pestering the dealerships or Acura corporate office until it is resolved.

Well you think with multiple 04 TL owners having the same problem, they would issue a recall, but since it isn't a "mechanical" problem and doesn't affect the drivability of the car, they aren't going to do anything about it. They were more than happy to replace the transmission in the 2G CL and TL because it affected the drivability of the cars.

I'm dropping by my local Acura dealership to see if the general manager or somebody higher up can contact Acura. A dealership representative complaining about a problem is going to get a lot more attention than my 20 year old self calling corporate.

I think this is an 04 TL problem and after that model year, Acura realized they fucked up, and they changed something with the dash for 05+ model years. Just a hypothesis though.

I'm drafting a letter to "Acura Client Services" right now. I am dropping by my local Acura dealership tomorrow to see if the general manager will take a look at my car, give his opinion, look over the letter, and hopefully include his opinion in another letter from him to corporate. After my visit tomorrow I am going to finish my letter and send it to corporate on Saturday or Tuesday at the latest since Monday is Memorial Day.

Usually whenever I go there, they look down on me because I am fairly young and this is my second Acura, but hopefully since I am bringing my parents, they will do the right thing for me and realize that I'm not too happy about the situation.

How long ago did you have it replaced? How is it holding up? Does the replacement seem to be of improved quality? I'm good so far--the airbag shows, but no fade, no cracks, use 303, crack the windows and roof, but I look the dash over with a nervous eye every time I get in the car now. Just a thought--if somebody sues over this they could use the lawsuit to get access to whatever information Honda has about this problem--numbers of claims, sales of replacement dashes, etc., maybe even names of owners.

Same thing here, I'm actually 19, not 28 how my profile says. I've had a TSX and now the TL with the cracked dashboard and whenever I go to the dealer they look down on me too.

Sometimes I think it would've been better to have kept the TSX. It was really an excellent car.

I hear ya on that. I love my TL but I should have kept my CL-S.

I went to my dealership today and I told them my story. They took pictures and they are sending my information and pictures to a "district manager" who Acura employs to investigate problems with vehicles in a specific area. I should be hearing back from him within a week.

Hey my car is a 04 just hit 51k and my dash cracked as well. I don't know what to do.

Sorry kinda little late on this thread, but my friend has a 05 TL with 89K miles, far away from warranty, and he had some minor cracks in his dashboard like a inch long, not really noticeable, and our dealership replaced it free of charge and even gave him Protectant for his dashboard and at the same time fixed all of his rattles and other problems without even being told to do so all under expired warranty. He did have to pay for a simple alignment and balance, but that is normal

I've got to admit and I am very lucky that I have his good dealership.
