Chita79:
This was bysin's project. Unfortunately, he is MIA and has been gone for quite some time. We probably won't see any more progress. At this point, you can only swap the background image (cannot disable the NAG ok button).
It's fairly difficult to reverse engineer the NAVI software. Bysin had some experience from hacking the DreamCast (similar hardware: sh4 cpu) that probably helped him figure out as much as he did. Hopefully, someone will carry on where he left off, but there probably aren't too many people who have the skills and time to do it. Check other forums (the TSX forum has a similar post) to see if anyone has tried and keep us posted.
I'm a senior at Georgia Tech studying Computer Science. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience reverse engineering or hacking. I took a stab at the Navi S/W last weekend, but I didn't get too far. Using IDA Pro Advanced, I was able open and dissassemble navi.exe. But there is a lot of assembly code to decipher, and its PITA to make sense of. I'll keep looking at in my spare time, but I don't expect to make much progress. This is one of my busiest semesters, so I don't have much time to spend on it, and again its a PITA to decipher the assembly code.

Both are for windows. It would be nice to have the source but I just did not download it. Too bad.
Your welcome.

positron, please Send me a PM so I can reply and send you my Email address.
If you can email me those 2 Zip Files I can rehost them on my site since bysin's seems to be offline again and no word yet from Soopa.

As for the rest of you...
The current status appears to be this.
Bysin is no longer posting. Also his website is no longer working to download the files and instructions from.
So his effort on this project can be assumed to have come to an end.
I will try to get the files from anyone who has the latest copies and rehost them for all.
What this Mod DOES do:
- Replaces the logo that appears when your NAVI screen first comes up. The default is the world.
- During extraction, you can also Hex edit navi.exe to remove/change the TEXT on the Nag Screen, including the buttons.
What this Mod DOES NOT do:
- Change the Nag to a picture background
- Remove the requirement for pressing the stupid nag button to continue
- Change any other screens other than the ones mentioned above.
If you have any of the Files or HTML Pages from Bysin's website, please PM me and I will get them rehosted.

Acura TL NAV DVD v3.5 out [At Dealers]
All -
I have been a spectator for a while and finally decided to join. Great information on this site so I figured I could give something back.
I went by my dealer today and my sales guy gave me, free of charge, the new v3.50 TL DVD Nav software. I have hacked my nav system and it works great with the new software. I am still playing with the features but nothing really stands out. If anyone knows of any key features that they specific on the 3.50, let me know.
Enjoy
P.S. - I do share - {wink}

Well, from what I can tell not a lot of people with Accord are really up on this but I seem to have a problem. I have a 2006 which seems to have the new hardware and I can get to the version screen but when I hold down menu it just goes to something that has 3 pages of lists of different filenames. Has anyone else seen this? And just to make sure I am doing this correctly, I do hold down the three buttons from the screen where I see the roads and a little arrow, correct? Thanks for the help and when I get a chance I will start looking closer at this new hardware.

Well, the 2006 Accords have the newest hardware similar to the 06 TSX. The processor is faster, the background has the brushed look rather than the flat color look, etc . . .
In the root directory of my Navi DVD I have only 5 bin files. 06Touch, 06Touch2, 06Jog, 06Jog2, and VRDB. The Version number is also 1.04.
I'm guessing we'll have to wait for someone with a little more programming experience than myself to analyze the new system. I have a few versions of dumpnavi but none of them seem to cooperate with these new bins.
Just to make sure in DOS I am pointing at the directory which has my 5 bins and the dumpnavi program. I am typing "dumpnavi 06touch2.bin extract". That is correct isn't it? It will start extracting the files ending in 2 but then crashes. The others it states invalid ROM header.
So, the 06 system seems to be completely different and I guess I will try and find some stuff to help me dig into it a little deeper. If anyone would like to see my bin files I will have no problem mailing them. Thanks.

How do I find out what version of the NAVI DVD I have? Everyone seems to be talking about version 3.40 and 3.50. I went into setup on my new 05 TL and all I can find is database version 20041119 and software version 1.0010. I have noticed that several streets thate are over 3 years old don't show up all the time.

Cold Racketeer
Is there any step by step guide to editing the text that appears? I'd love to put in "Thank you for driving the Acura TL. This screen is totally unneccesary and even though that is a fact you must still hit the OK button below. Thank you for your time" or something
Maybe some inspirational quotes even... ? lol

What are the dimensions of the bitmap image the navi uses as the startup image? The exact pixel values for height and width I mean. I thought I might do some designs for you all and then post them for free usage for your cars. Any requests?

U say someone removed the need to press ok? I got rid of the nag screen with my own picture and changed the button to say "ok". but I still have to press it.
I have some sweet DTS albums that play AWESOME in our TL's if you wanna swap some stuff.
I wanna get the new version of our NAV (I have an 05) and get the latest hack!!

Did you do anything special to make the nag text a pic? I thought this only changed the initial acura load screen pic. The "OK" isn't a big deal, but the text itself is annoying...

I'm going to keep it a little general to be safe
Download a free hex editor like xvi32
http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delph...vi32/xvi32.htm
Extract navi.exe from your bin using the bysin's command line tool
Open navi.exe with your hex editor
Search for a keyword that usually shows up there (*find the second set of words, you wont see a change if you modify the first set* (i.e. press find again))
Type over with your text (spaces and such to center) but you can only change the letters of what's already there (no inserting as this will change the file and don't run over the end of the string). It helps to plan/map it out beforehand. Go slowly.
Put navi.exe back into your bin and you're done.
If you hit any problems with compressed navi.exe being bigger when using bysin's tool to put it back in the bin put spaces over some of the canadian text, this will help it compress more.
P.S. try not to mess up, don't know what would happen if you did, i'm not responsible.

Yeah, I actually had one image that only contained 136 colors, but it still had about a 5 second delay before the picture loaded. I just cut the size down to 477 x 233 and it loaded almost instantly and there wasn't any problem (black areas) where the image was reduced in size.

This has been working for me with no delay. 475x232, 8bit, 255 colors. With 256 colors I get a delay. I'm sure you could play with the size a little more, but I found dropping from 256 to 255 makes the difference.
