6speed and auto engine noises
I currently own a 06 6speed TL and I have about 13k on it. I had it serviced at a dealership because of the rattles and they gave me an auto TL as a loaner that had about 18k miles on it. I've noticed that the 6speed was a little more smoother with the engine noise but gave a slight high pitched whine when I got close to about 3-4k rpm. When I drove the automatic TL they gave me as a loaner it didnt make any kind of high pitched noise but the engine noise was a LOT different IMO. Has anyone else noticed this?

I read the AT has different engine mount tuning than the the 6MT in an attempt to reduce idle vibes with drive engaged. High pitched whine is generally gear noise or the timing belt. AT cars shift well before the 3-4k rpm you mention unless they are spurred.
