Cylinder Misfire when starting with my Remote Car Starter

Hello everyone,

I've come across a problem with Cylinder 5 misfiring. It's only started happening when I start it with my remote starter but, the car drives fine and it's as if there's nothing wrong with it. This is only the second time it has done this but, it does worry me a bit. I've never had any problems like this just starting the car with my key. It seems like the remote starter may be causing this. Has anyone heard of this happening because of a remote car starter?

Thanks

One of my friends told me that remote starting can cause some weird issues and one of his friends had the car start and roll like it was in neutral so I would stop using it if I were you. I have remote start but have stopped using it to be safe

There should be no reason its doing it unless the remote start device isnt giving the start signal long enough. The signal simply triggers the start. There is no special wiring to any thing that would have it start differently.

If its does any thing weird its either a really cheap unit or wired wrong. There is no reason not to use it, ESPECIALLY if it works normally. My wife has one i her car and has had it there for 180k no issues ever, i my self have never had issues with them or seen issues with them when properly installed (i used to install them many years ago)

I guess I might have to bring it back to the shop that installed it for me. It's a really reputable shop in my area and I'm surprised this is happening. Is there anything else I might want to take a look at just in case it's not the wiring from the starter?

For some reason now when I start my car with the remote start, it will shut down shortly after I get in and start driving. My alarm has been on the car at least 4 yrs now so not sure why this started all of a sudden. I have noticed the green key light flashes in the dash b4 it shuts down though but not sure if thats tied in together or not.

The wiring shoudnt go to the starter. Its all inside and to the ecu. All a remote starter does (as simply as i can put it) is to tell the ecu its time to start, all the same way the key does. It taps into that signal. nothing else as far as fancy wiring. (though there are other things it does like shut it off, and kill with touching the brake without the key to the run etc..)

Our car keys have a chip in them so the car will start. If this key is removed, then the car will not start. I am guessing the alarm is thinking the key has been removed when it in fact is still there. Might be a wiring issue, take it to a shop and have them look at it. Did you have to provide a spare key to the installer when installing?

So, I went outside and stood beside my car this morning as I was starting it with the remote and what happened was the car started cranking then it stopped. A few seconds later the starter tried starting again and it fired up. Is this what you were talking about fsttyms1?
