Finally got My TL! 05' 6-sp Black/Black!

Friends, after participating in the 1st gen TL forum, and recently spending time on here (3rd gen) doing an insane amount of research before I bought the car, I finally found my TL.

Go it for 16k with 57000 miles in case you were wondering

[will upload a pic soon]

Just wanted to do an overview of my next moves. Here is my list to the following things I should buy/get/mod to make this puppy run even smoother.

-GM Synchromesh for the transmission
-303 vinyl treatment
-tint/clear bra (any opinions on mirrored tint vs black?)
-cold air intake (any opinions on an AEM vs others)
-synthetic oil & filter
-brake fluid (should I go with racing fluid?)
-cabin filter
-new brembo pads (suggestions for an OEM or others?)

Anything I should add to this list? Before people scream "search" please note I do search! I still think it is good to revisit conversations/conclusions every once in a while.

For the intake I'd go with an AEM V2. They are getting better reviews for the sound. Supposedly they make more power too, but who knows.

Brake fluid, I would say factory honda is best unless you are really driving hard with high friction pads. Also, check out the stage 0 brake kit.

Nice upgrade man, you won't look back!

its only got 57,000 miles, why seafoam? I don't think you would need to do this until higher mileage... but then again I'm not an expert.

Congrats on the new ride!

Is your car running like shit?
IMO, your car is to new. I would only use seafoam if your car is completely stuttering, running like shit, but then if it was doing that I would check out other things first.

Is your 3rd gear not taking?
if its spitting your stick back out then the GM syncromesh is recommended.

regular brake fluid is fine.

You don't want to use GM Synchromesh fluid. The one you want is GMSFM (General Motors Synchromesh Friction Modified), part #12377916.

The stock pads for the manual TL are excellent with one exception. They dust a lot. If this is a problem, consider an after market pad but do keep in mind, they may not perform quite as well as the stock OEM pads. I hated the dusting and went with Rotex Gold Kevlar pads and have been very pleased with them. All a matter of personal taste.

Conrgrats on the find! I say for CAI go with AEM. Sounds great, good performance gains, and 50 State CARB legal.

Still torn on this vs AMSOIL. Seems like MOST people are happy with the GMSM Friction Modified.

Sorry, didnt see this post- I do have a 6mt, ill stick with the synchromesh.

As far as the 3rd gear- it is taking fine, but a little notchy. I guess I don't need to change it out, but I want to. Who doesnt want that buttery smooth shifting feeling?

I recently bought a TL 6MT that occasionally has the "third gear problem". The dealership I purchased it from offered to put the GM Synchromesh in it. I was wondering if the general consensus on here was that the Synchromesh was a good fix, or is it worth the fight to get the third gear set replaced?

if the dealership is offering the friction modified GM synchromesh you should go for it. i think everyone here who has done it has said they have not had problems (some for years). personally i would only do the third gear replacement if that's the only option that won't void your warranty. that's where i'm at and they can't reproduce it and refuse to fix it.

i'm thinking of trying a different acura dealer but they are few and far between here.
