I tried different gas stations and found chevron supreme to be the best for my TL. The ride feels smoother… idk maybe its just me. Has anyone felt differently?

Been alternating between 93 Shell and 93 Exxon exclusively in the last year. However, prior to this, I have used 93 BP and 93 Luke in the past and honestly, I see no difference in performance at all.

Up here in the north, I use Petro 94 if its around when I need gas but run the Shell 91 otherwise, Costco 91 her isn't bad either but those aren't around as often.

Higher octane would be a better run for the car but certain states dont have higher than 93 octane.

It also makes a difference if you run pure gas or gas that has ethanol

on the third gen TL, we've monitored knock and found that a mix of 100 octane and 93 to make 96 octane stops knock.

What rtx127 had said is correct. Higher octane fuel will result in a smoother engine. My 2013 TL SH-AWD Owner's Guide states the the SH-AWD requires a minimum of 91 Octane gas for optimum performance. If owners put anything lower than a 91 Octane then it would result in the engine knocking. The higher the octane the better.

For ppl that want higher octane fuel but are unable to purchase them at the gas stations in their state then you can purchase them in an Autozone near you or almost any car parts store. They offer small bottles of 108 Octane fuel that you can put in your car to boost your local gas stations' octane level. Just pour it in your gas tank with your current gas and the octane level will be boosted a bit.

89 octane then becomes 89.4 octane.

ALL octane boosters are SNAKE OIL!
there's only a few ways to raise octane.

mixing 100 octane with a lower octane will net a mixture.

toluene also raises octane

Its ok. I cudnt find the numbers so I didnt want to post numbers without being able to back it up thats why I said a bit. Good that you were able to find the numbers tho. Now everyone knows how useless it is lol.

I recently had occasion to borrow my father-in-law’s MDX, as my wife’s truck was in the shop (again). He has an RDX as well. Like many, I was raised to always bring a borrowed vehicle back with a full tank, and when I went to fill, I noticed that like the TL, it’s supposed to take only premium. When I asked him about it, he said he never puts premium in, and that was on advice from the dealer. I think this was based, in part, upon the fact that most premium available here is 91, and the difference between 87 and 91 is negligible. Again, this is from the dealer, not me.

A few dollars saved at the pump is a few more dollars wasted in the combustion chamber.

Canada, Shell 91. No ethanol. Second choice Petro Canada 94. Third choice Esso 91, but from high volume gas stations with newer pumps and gas tanks. Hard to tell, but if you lived in the same area for a long time you see who gets new equipment once every two-three years. They dig up the entire gas station and install new everything. Makes a difference.

There is no 93 Octane fuel in Denver (that I know of at least, the place I used to know closed down). I was running shell 91 as that is the best available option. I just started running Conoco 91 Non ethanol/ethanol free, only 2 gas stations in Denver have it. I have noticed an increase in MPG, was around 18 MPG combined with the Shell 91 and now I am around 22 MPG combined. The non ethanol gas is about 40-50 cents more per gallon, so cost per mile is pretty close.

awesome, continue to re-fuel with premium gas and you'll have no worries.

also, this car is about 5 years old now. Everything you ever wanted to know has been answered already in this forum.
you could have just browsed the forum and found out the exact same shit we just told you above!

Well for the first time since I've owned my car I filled up today at a station other than Chevron / Mobil / BP. I decided to go with Racetrac because a brand new one was just built by my work and they offer ethanol free. This was the first time I went there so I didn't realize it was only the 90 octane...I ended up doing half a tank of that and the other half with 93 octane. I don't expect to see any major differences but I'm curious if my MPG will improve at all.

Not all fuel additives are the same. Granted autozone, advance, and k mart are a waste of time. Torco does work and raises fuel incredibly. Now I don't put it in the TL since there wouldn't be a gain. Well maybe red spark plugs and nice exhaust smells with white tips lol
