Newb - HID Headlight Problem

I recently purchased a 2003 TL Type S with 90k. One of my HID (headlight) bulbs went out. My mechanic was able to put them in for only $20 bucks (which is good because Acura wanted $120).

However, my mechanic noted that the connector for the bulb that was burnt out was partially melted. He was able to do a hokey fix but I asked Acura if I could get a new connector. They said that I would need a new inverter, which would cost me $250. But they also said that I could possibly need another part that would also cost me $250.

Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, experience with a similar problem with the HIDs?

Also, I purchased the 6000k D2R bulbs to replace my stock (after the stock bulb burnt out). Is it safe to use these on our HID kits that come with the Acuras? The Acura dealership was telling me that they notoriously cause the burning out of the HID hardware.

Thanks!

Bulbs shouldn't be the cause of any of the ballast or inverter problems. Old age or weather, maybe. But not the bulbs.

Those bulbs will work fine. As far as the wires, I would be careful running with melted wires. Even if they're somewhat fixed. The HID system draws quite a bit of power. They can be a fire hazard.

Look into aftermarket HID kits if you're thinking about replacing. They're alot cheaper.
