'06 TL Steering Wheel Lights

I just noticed on the way in to work today that some of the buttons on my 2006 acura tl steering wheel are not lighting up when I turn my headlights on. Specifically the radio control buttons and the end button for the hands free link on the left hand side of the steering wheel.

Do I just need to replace a fuse? Or do I actually need to open things up and replace bulbs?

This.

Changing the steering wheel radio control cluster bulb requires the removal of Torx screws and the airbag, although the HFL control cluster bulb does not.

Links to instruction threads for changing [all] the bulbs are in the 3G TL Service Department, a.k.a. 3G TL Garage.

^this, I changed mine out with the help of the DIY. Its not hard at all, BUT be careful when removing the airbag. DO NOT DROP IT.

I was in the same position when it came to replacing the lights. It depends how many are out, where they are located will determine the parts portion of the cost.

But I remember my local dealer charging $130 to replace like 4 bulbs. I was like forget that, I'd rather do it myself or just deal with the burned out bulbs.
I chose to do it myself, the bulbs can be pricey for what they are but I can't stand to see bulbs out at night.

If you replace them yourself, or get someone else to, make sure all the bulbs behind the steering wheel get replaced, not only the ones that are out.

Nothing worse than replacing a couple bulbs and the other side going out shortly after.

Dealer.

Thats were I bought mine, had all steering wheel ones burnt out and the passenger heater switch bulb. Luckily my Acura dealer had a 30% discount special on parts that month. Each bulb is like $3-4 bucks depending on where they are located, but most are all the same.

The only one that I see is currently out is my passenger lock/unlock switch light is out. but thats an LED apparently and its soldered into the housing piece so I need to change it out costs $12bucks for such a small switch.

I am afraid when my center stack lights begin to go out.

Why not go through Honda/Acura dealer? you could go through one our vendors who I believe works for an Acura dealer. But would need to pay shipping for the amount of lightbulbs you have which is like 8-9 bulbs x$3-4 x shipping.

I dont want to deal with shipping such simple, somewhat cheap bulbs.

Does the cover to the hands free witch on the steering wheel pop off or do you need to take the steering wheel apart to change the bulbs?

Steering wheel illumination

Bought a 10 pack of the OEM bulbs thru Newark. As long as you're careful and disconnect the battery, it's not a bad job. Remove the airbag via the torx screws on either side of the steering wheel, disconnect the plug to the airbag and the horn, lift out the the airbag and set it on the passenger seat to get it out of the way. Each switch cluster can be removed via 2 phillips head screws, side for hfl and back for radio and cruise. have your radio and navi codes handy for when you connect everything back up. Note: same bulbs for the seat heater illumination.

Personally, I plan on changing my steering wheel bulbs with T3 Neo Wedge LEDs. You can buy these fairly cheap on Ebay and they look better than that awkward green OEM color in my opinion.
