RPM's dont match acceleration ? Yelp!
Hi guys. I have a question . I have an 06 manual TL . I do a lot of highway driving and have about 170,000 miles on the car. I try and keep up with all my maintenance including recent timing belt change etc.
So last week as i was on my way to work. pulled up to the toll booth to take my ticket and as i started to accelerate it sounded like my rpms were rev'ing loudly but my mpg's were creeping up slowly. By 3rd gear it started to match up only if i slowly accelerated . As I got off the high way and was at the light. i wanted to test the car so i hit the gas off the light and my car rev'd up past 7000 rpm but my mph were creeping up only slowly. basically it felt like i lost my power. once my car is in 6th gear it drives fine but theres no feeling of any pull when i accelerate or try to pass somebody up. the biggest deficit in power is without a doubt from stop to about 3rd gear.
This has been going on all week. Ive had this car since about 60K. never had any problems. anyone have any idea whats going on. I dont know if its my transmission wouldn't it feel like it was slipping if it were a tranny problem ?
any advise would be appreciated. Thanks guys

clutch huh ? well i guess at 170k thats probably expected.sounds price? do you guys recommend i stay oem on clutch / flywheel? I hope i can drag out that clutch for another year. something tells me this is gonna be a pricey fix :/

Definitely clutch and you will be lucky to make it another month.

damn u shitting me a month? Acura just quoted me around 1700 dollars. how do i know my fly wheel isnt already shot?
do you think i should stick with oem parts or something like exedy ?

sorry so how do i for sure diagnose this problem as a clutch problem because my buddy ( he has no mechanical credibility ) is insisting its my transmission ?

you wont really know until the transmission is taken apart. But the more you drive with the clutch slipping like that the greater the chances you'll need to replace the flywheel (which is an extra few hundred on top of the clutch).
regarding your friend, gears dont "slip", worn clutches do. (though "transmission" is such a broad term, it could include the clutch. But if he insists its NOT the clutch then...)

If it were an A/T it might be the trans, but ask your buddy what links the M/T trans to the engine to transmit power to the drive wheels..........clutch assembly. No way of knowing whether the flywheel is gone, but I'd say with the 177k it would be a good idea to replace the flywheel, clutch, cover (PP), throwout bearing, pilot bearing and be done with the job.
