BMW sales went up with Bangle's design so in the category that truly measures success (sales) his cars are winners. The BMW faithful were not happy with the design but that did not stop them from buying the cars and BMW did attract some new buyers. Ultimately car makers are in the business of selling cars.
The Acura faithful has voted on the new look for the TL. It is almost universally disliked compared to the previous version. Ultimate success will be determined by sales. If sales go up it is a success. If sales go down it is a failure. Current Acura owners that do not like the design should not buy it.

Actually, its the OPPOSITE! A memo was sent out to some Acura operatives strongly suggesting that the grilles NOT be modified or painted. The memo stated that it takes a while for new design to be accepted and that this WILL remain the face of Acura.

bmw makes cars with an established history and reputation for being superb "drivers cars". In all honesty, nothing "drives" as well as a bmw does. I've owned several bmw's, but i wont buy a 5er because of bangle's design. But a lot of people accepted the poor styling because they wanted a bmw. Acura doesnt have (yet) the long history to call on to rescue a bad design. The 4g tl is a great car that is hampered by its design - especially the grille. I'll bet the car sells well for a while, then drops off precipitously afterwards. Until a refresh comes out that fixes the grille, anyway!

Nope. I work for an Acura dealer in Austin, TX as a technician, and we did ours just out of the idea, as i know MANY other dealers did.
I'll try and get pics tomorrow, been meaning to, but we did the painted grille (not entire, just the big nose) on a graphite/carbon colored Tech TL with those same 19's and it was HOT. SO much better than the normal looking rims and grille.
In fact, when we did this, we found this forum and saw that many others had done the same thing. One of my service consultants and I had a mild discussion on how the Acura designers were taking this, being as it's a popular mod not even 2 weeks after the car hits the showroom.

Yea, It's Me!
I'm wondering what the price will be if Acura dealers start offering the painted grill. I was quoted $275, so I went ahead and had it done. I saw somehwere out west that it was appx $500.

Not to knock the 4G anymore, but how can a brand new car company do a car that looks this cool? Funny thing is the front of THIS car looks like a huge air intake...kinda funny to have on an electric car

I guess my point is - the fact that you're painting the grill to hide it makes it worse and stand out even more because its not stock. It's silly.
Just drive it for what it is. high rev vtech / funky SH-AWD / best shifter period / not as fast and balanced as Germans but $10-20k less.

I've been driving Acura since way back in college day and love the car because of its style n reliability until 2009 newly design came out with that obnoxiously ugly Chocobo chrome beak. Currently in the market for a car and cross it out on my list until I saw this thread...with a little custom paint, I am actually giving in and considering to give TL another shot..thanks with all the pics posted up here
