Unhappy Need the Neutral Safety Switch Cover & bolts

Hello,
All I'm looking for the Neutral safety Switch cover and bolts for the Honda 07 5at BAYA transmission. Apparently when the shop who did the work for me did the swap, they didn't put the 07 cover on.
As a result the sensor apparently failed due to exposure. The Shop is out of business due to the pandemic so trying to retrieve the part was useless. If anyone can help , I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Although, it might be #5 on this one as well. Depending on which NP-sensor they used?
I'm thinking they should have reused the TL NP sensor. That's what the swap thread indicates, anyway.

Zeta,
The TL's Neutral Safety switch was used. The part number referenced in the site you provided is different that the one I got for the 07 accord v6 3.0 tranny, 21720-RCT-010.
Will either work? or the TL. At this piont the 03 TL looks different than the 07 Accord. One uses two bolts the other three to hold it on. As I'm using the 07 accord tranny it requires three bolts so the RCT cover best resembles the required cover.
Do you agree?

Info covered in the AV6 megathread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/second-.../#post15826113
  • You have to use the previous Transmission Range Switch from your Acura because it has the correct plug to fit to your wiring harness.
  • The old cover from the Acura has different mounting holes and will not work.
  • This old switch has a bigger body than the newer version switch form the Accord V6 transmission, and as a result the cover won't fit directly without some modification.
Are you sure it's not working at all? or just needs to be adjusted? there is an adjustment required, chances are if it is uncovered it may have become exposed to water?

best of luck...

From whitetiger5's explanation, it appears that you have to purchase or reuse the AV6 range switch cover (21702-RAY-000) so it gels with the AV6 bolt pattern and then modify it (AV6 RS cover) to fit over the larger body of TL range switch as whitetiger5 depicts in the Av6 thread.

Great info BTW, I keep learning stuff on this forum everyday.

Whitetiger5,

I just replaced the NSS with a new one due to the tranny not shifting properly and D5 flashing along with the engine light. When I went to replace the switch I noticed the cover not on. it is then I surmised the mechanic didn't put the cover back on and subsequent issues with the transmission were due to its exposure. Now I live a stones throw to the Atlantic just behind JFK airport and I pass thru a Bird preserve of which sea water during high tide passes over the road. So you can see its most likely been doused several times by this and thus the issues. After replacement, car runs fine. No engine light and no harsh shifting and no D5 flashing.. I just want to get it covered as quickly as possible.

Can't you just swap the connectors? Either cut and splice, or use the pin tool to push out pins and put the TL connector on the AV6 sensor? The TL manual has the pinouts and schematic, I'll assume the Accord does too.

Also, if the NSS is problematic, can't you take them apart and clean the contacts inside? In the Jeep world, this is all too common when you can't start in park but can in neutral or the reverse lights won't come on. I've done this to my XJ.

I still think it’s easier to modify the cover with a Dremel or utility knife. In the OP’s case they went to a shop for the work and it was more than likely a flat rate where they would not perform any extraordinary work.

The cover from the Acura is made of metal, vs the accord, made from abs plastic. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, they came in over the weekend and the two bolt 06/07 cover made from ABS plastic with a little modification worked. You will need to Dremel out a 1/4" x 3/4" piece of the plastic near the left side attachment hole in order to get it to fit.. ill try to post some pis this coming weekend.

Check the main AV6 thread. I added pics there. If you feel I missed something, would you mind adding details there so information is all in one place? The details of modification to the cover will be very helpful in helping others understand how simple the modification it is.

I checked it and what you did Whitetiger5 was fine. I didn't do as much to get mine to fit. All I did was remove the 3/8" x 3/4" section on the right. The left was fine. Removing portions of the ribs i felt wasn't necessary and weakened the integrity of the shield from debris.

Yes, I removed some of the ribs so that it would not have pressure on the switch (and internal stress on the cover). If you were able to get it on, I would say that's good enough. I actually was going to leave mine off; because many others before me had also, but to hear of your story and the switch acting up with exposure I am glad I did modify it to fit.

Yes, Exposure in the north east with salt roads in the winter and salt air all the time, the cover is best protection from the elements, especially electronics. Just wish the mechanic had said something about the cover so I could have mitigated the issue.
