Smoked Tails?
I know that this is probably a frequent question and sounds like a noob question, but this regards tinted tail lights. My friend is looking into buying a 1999 NBP TL and if he gets it he wants to murder it out and I would probably end up doing all of the work for him. The thing is that I've never done a tail tinting before and I don't know how to go at it. Should I just get tint from Autozone, order tint online, or is it easier to use a can a "spray tint"? Is it just like putting on regular tint? I've also read that Rockblocker sells the film needed to do this so if anyone recommend him let me know. If any of you have an other solutions that are not mentioned feel free to post it.

u tinted my tails on my ssm tl-s. i used vht night shade spray paint it was around $12. not hard to do i unscrewed my tail light and cleaned them with some degreaser and and put about 5 coats on them. they look good and the light output is the same.
with the rockblocker tint film u could undo the tint but with spray i dought it unless u sand them down.
before:
after the tint and about 4months later:

^Thanks Rajca. Did you get the spray online or from a hardware store? Did you put a clear coat on or just leave it after you sprayed it 5 times?

Go with the rockblocker. I did. For one rockblocker is a vendor on this forum and like Rajca said you can take it off. With the tint spray it would be harder to fix if you go too dark. But whatever you do don't go buy tint film from Autozone. It will look like shit.

Hey. . . I actually have sum ROCKBLOCKER tint film that i'm NOT going to apply to my car, WHY? Juss for the fact that I know I ordered the darkest that they had (35%), but was sent the (20%) film. .
So0oo I'm either going to return it OR sell IF anyone wants it, 50 bucks takes it. .
Which is less then wat u would pay frum the ROCKBLOCKER site. .
Let me know

+1 for Rockblocker. Look in the Black Market section in Off Topic and you will find the vendor. The spray is not reversible and you will have to get a brand new set of tails if you ever have any legal trouble from the tint. With Rockblocker, you can just peel it right off.

Mine with 20% tint since Oct 2005. Pic took at All Cali meet in last June 07
In the shade, it looks dark. Out on sunlight, it looks ok, but not as dark.

check the avatar. the best way to do it is just like me and LacV did it. i have the 35%DARKSMOKE. and to get the clean cut tap of the bottom of the clear reverse and turn and then use a razor blade and it comes off perfect

ok so i'm new to this forum and i've got a question about the rockblocker, i went to their website and all i found was film for the headlights, does anyone know of a place that has it for the tails?, and i'm wondering if a set of 2002 tails would fit without a problem for my 2000? Thanks

Here is the direct link to rockblocker website with taillights tint package for 2002-2003 at the bottom page:
http://rockblocker.com/store/34762.htm It looks like he didn't make pre-cut 99-01 taillight tints.
I don't know if 02-03 pre-cut taillight tint will fit exactly for 2000 taillights or not, but regardless, you still have to trim a bit around the taillight for exact fit.
