Apple I OS 4.0
#2
I posted this earlier today in the "iPhone Pandora" thread, it seems this started with the release of the iPad OS.

You mean for connecting for audio? Mine works for Bluetooth audio and etc. But I guess you can't really expect a car manufacturer to update software as fast as Apple. Hopefully the iPhone 4 works.

Updated my 3Gs to 4.0. I now get a different message on the phone when I connect it - saying it's an incompatible device. However, it still seems to work, except whn I use the iPod, it seems to put whatever album I load into Shuffle mode. Not sure how this would happen.

FWIW, a 'hard reset' is going to be the official recommendation from Acura Client Services. BUT, it didn't work for me. I did a hard reset and am still getting "Unsupported". I tried an MDX Tech, TL Base and RDX Tech with the same result.

Looks like we have to cycle the ignition key through the accessory position and wait 10 seconds. Here are some notes from the engineer:
If the iPhone is reset, ACC OFF (for 10 seconds) and ACC ON, then the reset iPhone is connected, the system recognizes the iPhone.
Please note that if a non-reset iPhone (OS4) is once connected and disconnected, other iPhone(OS3)/iPod will not be able to be used until ACC OFF/ON with the vehicle.

I just upgraded my 3GS to OS 4.0 in hopes to get rid of this blue-tooth audio interruption that's been going on since conception, but no go. In fact, it's even worse, it won't stay connected for more than 30 seconds. I've always had issues with the iPhone connectivity via HFL since Nov. 2009, it was tolerable, but now it's not. It so sad that all these manufacturers can't utilize a simple technology like blue-tooth and stay on the same page. I'm looking for the resolute answer, going to be calling Acura HQ on Monday.

To ALL having issues with OS 4. Make SURE you do not have the ipod running in the background BEFORE you plug the usb cable in. That will solve your problem. I had the same error as everyone else, and now flawless as long as I make sure the IPOD is not running in the background. That is all the rebooting does anyway, is close the ipod app.

been running 4.0 for a few weeks now on my 3GS with no major bluetooth issues...just that it takes a little longer to initially connect when i sit in the car. Picked up an iPhone 4 on wednesday and HFL works just as well as the 3GS and BT audio sounds pretty damn good...havnt used the USB connection with 3GS or 4 since iOS 4.0 came out, will give that a shot tomorrow

Jabrah, I wonder if your 2010 has a newer firmware version than my 09' TL TECH? I asked the dealer about updates, they're clueless, or don't want to help. I'll try to start the iPod before I connect the USB cable. Good input guys, thanks.
RoyalBlue09, are you a beta tester because OS4.0 just came out last week?

With the iPod running or not running upon connection, my issue of the dock connection audio interruption continues. Something new happened that I'd had not noticed before, after a 10 min freeway ride with no interruptions, I arrived at my gym where there is WIFI, and the iPod stopped playing audio? The WIFI indicated the my new location as it always does, and the time was still running on the display but no audio. So I disabled the WIFI for the ride home, and had no issues as of yet. Will report after more trials to see if this is the answer. Cheers.

I wish it was that simple for me, it still cuts off the audio but keeps running visually. I tried a hard button reboot with the Nav system on and USB data cable attached, and that improves stability, but when inside WIFI or Bluetooth radar, the audio still drops. It's very frustrating to say the least.

Reset, hard or otherwise, doesn't work for me at all. I'd say 60% of the time when I connect my iPhone 3GS (and now 4) to the dock connector, the display reads "NO SONGS" or "UNREADABLE MEDIA." I have to plug and unplug it a few times before it will recognize and play anything. 40% of the time it will work the first time I plug it in.
When it comes to bluetooth connection, I'd say 25% of the time the connection won't work and I have to retry several times, turning the audio on and off, cycling thru audio modes, and then voilà, I get a bluetooth connection. This kind of unpredictability is not what I expected from the TL.

Maybe take your car to the dealer - I plugged in my iphone 4 to the dock connector and used RDIO via bluetooth for music and it's worked way better than I expected. Even the audio quality from BT was great. Maybe they need to update the car software or some other fix.

Threw on the beta of iOS 4.1, and one surprising addition is now that the steering wheel/dash audio controls work for bluetooth audio! I can change songs with the 'channel up/down' buttons, which is totally nice

iOS 4.1 is not out yet to the general public, right? I hope it's true that it's adding full AVRCP controls (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profile). It's inexcusable after so many years that the iPhone doesn't support that yet. There's nothing new or experimental about it.

Sooner, using the Blue tooth audio does not "burn down" my battery life at all, in fact using the video is the only thing that depletes my battery. However in the TL, my iPhone gets charge via the USB adapter as I use the Blue tooth audio so it's a win win there. Pandora sounds great traveling abroad, screw XM!!!
I just wish I can figure out why the Bluetooth is cutting off my iPod audio section of the iPhone?

can you see your playlist on the screen or just hit up and down steering wheel controls and view your playlist on the phone?
Has anyone tried an external USB 2.5 hard drive yet?

Threw on beta 3 of 4.1 onto my iPhone 4, and I tried a few times tonight to plug it in and connect...everytime it worked perfectly, no issues with initial connection. Bluetooh audio kept trying to take over, but i'd just change it to "dock connector" and it'd be fine..it recognized the phone right away. Still get the "accessory not supported" screen on the phone, but thats livable, doesnt impact usability...hopefully the final version of 4.1 drops in the next week or so

I'm also having ipod playback issues now, when one song is done, the next song starts in the middle of another song 3 tracks ahead? The remember position of a song feature is off, believe me I checked. And it happens with MP3 and AIFF files on the iPhone. I'm so done with this...
By the way Royal, how are you getting these beta's? Do tell...

I beta test for a developer, so he sends me the beta's when they come out to test his apps. my serial number is setup on his developer account with apple, so when when upgrade it checks the database to make sure im legit...
If you search around, there are people that sell slots for $10 to allow you to get on their developer accounts

I got the iPhone 4 and the car does not recognize the ipod. I did not have the ipod running in the background and I turned it on after I connected the phone to the car. HFL works great though.

If anyone has been following this thread, I've been fighting this bluetooth war for months since the 4.0 upgrade and I finally just took my 3GS to the Apple store and the guys were very understanding. They of course got the bluetooth to sync up right away to many devices there, but it just wasn't STABLE in my TL, so they swapped out my phone and gave me a new one. So far, it's been pretty stable, but the audio still switches to HFL audio connection when the bluetooth engages in the display upon connection. At that point I go into the iPod section and switch it back to Dock connection and it's been pretty stable there. Receiving calls does not affect the iPod, it resumes perfectly.
They also suggested that to completely start over with my iPhone and deleting the restore file in iTunes as a corrupt file or two could be on the backup. I did not do that as of yet, but will be the next move if this persists.
Right on Royal, that's cool, but I would never pay for that, they would have to pay me.

Yea I got the iPhone 4 and sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt via the cable (even with rebooting, start before/after connecting etc) got tired of unplugging/rebooting whatever just to get something that should work to work. So I just use a 160GB ipod classic in the TL and works every time plus carriers my entire library of music. Now if they only had a better way to search
Still have the phone synced via bluetooth and can play music off it if I want but no need. Calls/Phonebook work fine so Im happy I guess!

That's my bad Vinnie, I've combined my thoughts from a few threads since everyone has been scattered with posts and no moderator help. Generally we're all talking about the 4.0 OS on any iPhone. There are obvious hardware differences between iPhone4 and 3GS, but the OS is really jacking us all up regardless.
For some reason today, my iPhone lost bluetooth pairing and I had to re-pair the phone. It's just crazy! I wish Acura would step up and say something!

The final version of 4.1 seemingly helps with the dock connector connectivity issue with my iPhone 4. No more "not recognized" or anything...I even started playing a song via BT, then plugged in dock connector and it switched over automatically, and held it on the dock connector. So thats promising.
My phone does take a looooong time to connect with BT when I get into the car though, and those AVRCP controls are still hit and miss for me, sometimes they work perfect, sometimes not at all. I cant tell if thats the car or phone's limitation.
