I did this about a year ago. I think the metal piece serves 2 purposes.
#1 to limit the light to the sides so that there's no glare.
#2 serves as a heat shield so that the refrlective part of the housing doesn't chip off.
Word of advice....if you HAD to replace the glass (since it broke) then I'd consider this mod since all you have to do is remove the phillips screw.
BUT....if your OEM glass is fine, I wouldn't even bother with it.

i agree. ano before and after pics, but there is more light on the sides of the car such as on guardrails. also there is more light directly below the light. it is brighter. u can do it from the back with out replacing the glass but its a pain. you have to use needle nose pliars.

na since the metal thing doesnt go all the way to the base of the bulb i can't see it helping that much in heat dissapation. although it may im assured that the housing can handle it no problems.

i drove for 5 hours after i had it done. this was at highway speeds but i had my fogs on the whole time. no discoloration. even if i pump gass and leave them on they don't get hot.

Hey guys, I got a quick question, are the lenses of our fox housing sealed like the headlight housing? Reason I ask is I got HID fogs, but was worrying about a rock cracking my OEM lenses.

Sealed like the headlight housing in what way? The clear lens attached to the rest of the housing? Then yes... it is just a metal bracket that clips on, behind that there is the glass that is silconed to the housing.

the housing comes apart without removing the glass. i had figured it out last time i was cleaning the condensation out. it has to do with the metal knob on the back, it's actually a screw without a screw-head. i'll try to take pics this weekend and post them. but basically you have to unscrew that part and when the housing begins to loosen you can unclip the sides or something. i can't fully remember, but i'll pull em out this weekend.
