Just wondering what type oil you guys run on your high mileage 3G TL's? Not sure what the previous owner of my car used but I've since have been using valvolines 5w30 high mileage oil. Is using high mileage oil even beneficial? I'm thinking of switching oils because a 5 L jug of this oil costs me about 45$ CAD. What do you guys think? My car is about 158k Miles on it.
I use Pennzoil high mileage even though I only have 80k on my '06. These oils typically have extra detergents to help clean the engine and conditioners that theoretically should help worn seals from developing leaks. Whether that's true or not I don't know but it's only about $1 difference between the HM and regular Pennzoil here so I just use the HM. Also any reason why you're using 5w30 over the recommended 5w20?
WHY? I've used the same Mobile1 5w-20 synthetic on my 07 Accord V6 for 220k miles. I have zero leak. Replaced front valve cover gasket, and some valve cover bolt grommets due to rubber hardening over time that's it. Cam and crank seals aren't leaking either.

100% agree no need to change oil on J series as the mileage racks up
High-mileage oil really works. But you should not automatically switch to it at some arbitrary mileage. You should wait until you have a problem and then try it out.
I have a bunch of older cars and switching to high-mileage does help slow or stop minor oil leaks and oil consumption.
M1 Extended Performance Gold Cap. It lasts up to 15K miles, is full synthetic and is $28 at walmart for 5 quart jug.
High mileage oils tend to shear less, remain thicker during operation and have a few more additives like zinc, iron, etc to help keep bearings and such in good shape even after a bunch of miles.
Best thing to do imho. Just keep running 5w20 Honda factory fill oil and keep the seals replaced. The seals usually start to fail at 120 to 140k miles. Including oil pump seals. Cam caps. Valve cover gaskets. VC grommets and tube seals can fail but not as likely. If you do your maint. On time.. like valve adjustment at 105k includes alot of gaskets... the rear main seals usually start to leak around 200k. And it's just a small seap.. anything can happen at any time.. but my judgements are based on the last 12 years of being a Honda master tech. Also. Secret here that should stay here. Honda factory fill uses Phillips Oil. Cheapest easy way to get this is to go to Walmart and buy Motorcraft oil. It's 95% the same. Or trop Artic. Or kendall. All the same oil. Made by Phillips. The kendall although sometimes hard to find comes in 3 performance levels. The first one is regular kendall. It's a semi synthetic (Honda factory fill IS semi synthetic) everything Phillips makes is semi or full. Anyway the next level of kendall is full syn. Then the 3rd and best is kendall full syn with liquid titanium. By the way. The base kendall out performes Mobil one in every way possible.. the tests are out there. I don't care to prove it. I've done my own uoa with Phillips oils.. good stuff. No to mention cheapest on the market (it's all in the marketing) ford and Honda and firestone.. maybe more use Phillips because it works the best. Not because they were offered it for a discount as long as they advertise for them. Aka mobil one on oil caps.. they don't need to pay for advertising. That's why the price is so low. Take the lowest grade Phillips semi syn oil. And put it up against BG. Royal purple. Red line. Pens crap. Anything. After you see its better. THEN you see its cheaper. then you realize you were paying for an advertisement.. Honda engineers aren't dumb. They use the best for their engines they spent millions building. Can't say the same for ford... think they just played follow the leader...

Im not saying M1 is inferior, just said i wish i could find the the new Ultra around here because i liked it better.

208,000 and climbing on my '04 Accord, change the oil every 7500 miles with Penzoil Platinum 5W-20. Oil level never moves off the full line nor turns completely black so the motor is still pretty tight.
I had a couple of Maximas and the early VQ35s (and my first '02 was the 91st one made!) were known oil burners. Going to a heavier high mileage oil really didn't cut consumption much if at all. Best to stick with what is recommended in the owners manual.
