I would really like to do something like that, bumper rail holes + subframe for longevity and heavy duty goal of my hitch, except TL's ass is much longer than S2000.

opinions???? I'm calling local fab shops because i don't have any tools for those

Seriously, why not jack up the TL add some mudders and turn it into a redneck 4x4 while you at it? It’s a SPORTS CAR not a TOW VEHICLE. If you can’t afford a truck then have you considered renting one for the few times you need to tow something? Last I checked you can rent a decent tow vehicle for well under $50/day! Sorry, I’m venting here…

I believe (call me an idiot. actually, don't. i know i am) that US tow ratings are mostly sue issues not actual capabilities.

Euro Accord 4cyl (TSX) is rated to tow 3300lbs in denmark.

I don't care what the manual says. Sit at a launch for a few hours on a busy day and see some of the stuff people bring in... Horrible I4 minivans with gigantic double trailers, Dodge Neon's in terrible condition with small boats or double trailers with big PWC, 'trucks' in horrible condition towing 4-5,000LB boats without trailer brakes... I understand the concern about high speed towing with an automatic without an auxiliary cooler, but toss a trans cooler on your auto and everything is fine. I put thousands of miles on my 02 Accord V6 towing a trailer, and that has one of the worst auto transmissions ever made by Honda. Far worse than the 04-06 TL. Didn't even have a trans cooler. Braking distance was poor, but still better than most trucks towing any real trailer without brakes.

I have towed a 4,800Lb boat with a vehicle that is actually rated for it, and it was WAY worse than my TL towing a 1,000Lb PWC. The TL is faster while towing than a truck, brakes better, handles better, gets twice the MPG's, and is far more comfortable than a truck. Be realistic, if you have a small trailer you want to get around, yet don't have a truck, what do you think is the better bet? Trucks towing stuff are generally a really big danger on the road. A TL with a few hundred LB's behind it is not. It simply pushes its braking performance closer towards a crummy older car, but still reasonably safe.

I like my car and all, but I don't kid myself. It's a 4 door family sedan designed to hold the weight of 5 people...

A small trailer (<1000lbs or so) weighs less than the people in a fully loaded car. How exactly does it "hurt the tranny" any more than having 5 people sit in the car?

Yes, towing is harder on the transmission than driving around alone with nothing in the car. Using the car at all is harder on the transmission than leaving it parked. Towing the average trailer is basically like driving around with 5 passengers. Nobody would think much about that, but for some reason towing is going to make the transmission explode?

It's a common car. It's not fast, rare, expensive, exotic, and relatively reliable. Use it however you want, it's fine.

ok...ok...maybe 'sports car' is not the best fit but I never said anything about the tranny (others have;-) I've towed for many years and there's more to towing than just the tranny anyway. brakes, suspension, and other bits wear out faster. It really boils down to what is being towed (overall weight and tongue weight). it can be done, but so can lowering my pilot and turning into a cafe racer (wait...that HAS been done ?!?)

Haha, fair. After reading my post it may have come off as a bit aggressive (which I did not mean it to). And I've seen more ridiculous things.. I remember seeing something on TV about a neon yellow Honda Odyssey that someone was giving a 150 shot of nitrous and was running on the track.
