I agree, I saw so many cars at the NY show that were coming that did not have cup holder cover. I loved the sliding door on the 4G TL.

Lmao you guys are killing me. My comment from the other post said wife, we're not quite there yet

In any case, I would hope if you can afford a shiney new GS F-Sport at least be able to afford a hotel room and not ruin the shocks by hanky panky in the back seat haha

"Precision Crafted Performance" Is Acura still following this slogan? Don't get me wrong. I'm still an Acura fan. The TLX was not what I hoped for in the looks department but its not that bad either. With the exception of the 2G, I have not desired any of their new TL designs during the initial rollout. It takes me about 2 years before the look starts to grow on me. Although, it took 3 years on the 4G until I pulled the trigger and bought one.

Not for a long time. Let's see if I remember correctly...

"Precision Crafted Performance"
"The true definition of luxury... yours"
"Advance"

These I know for sure. There was a commercial with Powers Booth doing the voice over that was titled "Engineering is our Art" but I don't think that was ever official. BTW, I loved this one. "This is our art, we sculpt in metal, paint in G forces"

^^^ It's been posted a few times, but I have to say that head-on view of the car looks good.

I have a theory as to why they are hiding the exhaust tips. Cars with direct injection seem to have much blacker exhaust tips from the carbon. Is it possible there real reason is to hide this "Black soot" from being noticed and complained about?

I don't believe the RDX's or ILX's engines are direct injection, yet .... no exposed exhaust tips. I think it's just an Acura thing ...

A Volvo I saw at a recent car show (I think it was the new S80) had a much nicer sliding cup holder door. Very smooth to open and close, almost like it had bearings underneath.

Not sure if I am the only one but in my 4g TL its always open because there is always either coffee or a bottle of water in there. So, perhaps the geniuses at Acura figured its a waste to put a cover on that since we all keep them open anyways.

I think you may have a point here. Ford ecoboost engines have this issue (among other issues...).

Speaking of the exhausts, I added a few more shots I pulled as screen grabs from some shaky videos taken with my GoPro. It shows the underbody from the rear and reflections of the underbody from the front. Not a ton of detail, unfortunately.

hopefully, it won't be too difficult to add some exhaust tips to that. (even if it looks "added on", better than partially seeing them like in pics 20, 30, 36 & 37).

Of course this is all dependent on body kit options of course.

CGTSX2004....It is interesting that the exhaust on the TLX isn't black like on the TL isn't it. That underbody shot sure makes the TLX look cheaper for some reason and having it blackened could have helped in my opinion....My 2 cents of course.

BTW...for those of you who haven't read my updated RDX photo thread yet....My RDX has been sold and I have someone interested in my TL so by June, I'll be Acura'less. I didn't mean to take the thread sideways with this comment so if possible, any comments directed to my last statement, post it in my RDX thread (photo section).

I just want to make sure we don't walk away from the TLX discussion which is the intent of this thread And for the record, I ain't going anywhere....Too many good contributors here....This my "virtual" home

It's my wife's car but I think our 11 Accord's cup holders do come with a sliding mechanism to cover them from sight.

Maybe Honda thought Acura drivers were more discerning and did not want to bother with a sliding cover unless it was automatic and voice-controlled?

Interestingly, I found this as well.

That looks like the same quote from that drawing or contest page to win something (I forget) that somebody posted a while back.

Hate to buck the trend on bashing this car, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I think it will look better in person.

Uncovered cup holders seem to be the latest trend. I have a cover but rarely ever close it. It is always being used for something. While it is open it looks kind of ugly. So I guess they figure making them look nicer while open is better. I don't mind the open cup holders.

I just drove my wife's Accord and the cover is the pull up flip down type, similar to those lunch trays on some airline seats.

I don't mind if it's open either though I could use a closed one to store many other things besides cups.

My M37S and now my A6 both have lids on the cup holders.

I was pretty late to the cupholder revolution. A byproduct of having two consecutive MR-2s through 2000. My first car ever with a cupholder was the '00 S2000. With that car I used to keep it closed, since the open lid rubbed your wrist when shifting. Since then, in every car with a cupholder and lid, the cover was always open. For me, this is a non-issue.

I will say that as much as I hate the open cup holder the RDX and TLX look like they do it OK, I could live with it, but it does take away from the elegance of the lines.
