Removing aluminum strip above rear license plate & trunk liner? 3G Garage #E-034

I plan to remove it and have it color-matched since i've already done it with the aluminum grille. is the aluminum strip just a snap on piece or is it screwed in? and does the trunk panel (carpet on the underside of the trunk) need to be removed? How would i do that?

The entire license plate trim must be removed. You must first remove the 3 5mm nuts holding the trim assembly to the trunk from the inside, disconnect the wire, and pull the trim assembly from the outside. Then you can get to the 3 screws holding the aluminum trim on.

To remove the trim inside the trunk:
1. Remove 2 trunk lid cushions-long rectangular black pieces on the bottom
2. Remove the trunk lid handle, which has one screw holding it in
3. Remove 9 clips
4. There are slits where the trunk arms go through the trim, so it can be removed

edit: See this thread for pictures of the trunk liner removal. Very good thread. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/e-035-diy-how-remove-trunk-liner-pics-763693/

what color is your car? do you have pics of your grill? ive got a NBP and i definitely want the 'blacked-out' look. i'm interested in doing both the grill and the strip at the back as well...so let us know what you decide on. and please post pics of your grill if you can. thanks.

Why did I know, without looking at the other posts, that you would have a detailed post like this. Glad to have you on this board Ron A.

Guys, can someone explain these 2 acronyms shown on this thread:
SSM,
NBP

I have been trying to make my grill look better for a while, took it all out and put it back in without the black rubber grill that goes closer to the radiator..

It looks a lot better as it now shows the radiator mesh, but still not what I want

I thought about building a mesh and putting it there..

the trim in the back too. I really want to change that.

I also thought about painting it and the grill in dark gray ( same color of the enkei wheels, and then put some enkei 19's on it. and lowering..

opinions?

Nice pics. The grill looks great on NBP, but the license plate frame has got to go. If you had WDP like me it might not be too bad, but on on NBP.

Just wondering, but why do some people black out their license plate number?

i dont have a license plate frame, i blacked it out because of security issues. i dont know if its hype or anything but i hear thieves can find out where your car is or where you live just buy getting your plate numbers. can anyone out there confirm this?

Oh, that's the license plate, and you blacked out the numbers. I thought it was a white frame around the plate. Glad to hear it isn't.

I'm sure thieves can get any info they want to. It's probably a good idea to black it out, but I have seen it both ways and was just wondering.

I thought no one would ever ask for these. Here are the two scans you need. And a third one because I needed a place to put it and we are already working in the trunk.

Is there a trick to get the rear license trim out? I unbolted everything, but those damn clips were holding it on like crazy. Any tips or tricks?

Thanks

Did you take off the license plate?

I forgot to do it and was forcing it

The chrome piece is held by 4 screws

I used the back of a screw driver and knocked on the 4 bolts on the back and it popped the clips out.
