Threatened By Legacy GT

WOW... other than the Acura TL that shocked me when i first saw it on the road... which was 1.5 years ago...this Legacy GT has me heartbeatting again... it looks mean and fast...its specs rnt bad either...comments, guys?

Legacy GT was one of the cars I was considering but I was turned off by Subaru resale value and lack of luxury.
AWD with 0-60 in 5.4 i believe. It's seriously fast and I really like how it looks.
"WRX for grown-ups" as Road and Track put it.

I personally think subarus are pretty ugly. Plus they have a serious lack of electronics features. This is just my opinion.

I rode in a Legacy GT taxi in Finland this spring - the norm there is Mercedes E-Class sedans and the like. I was impressed by the interior comfort, and the interior looked good (though the TL does look better), and if you're looking for AWD it's one of the less expensive games in town.

Personally the thing that would turn me off from a styling point of view is the hood scoop, and indeed Subaru resale values are bad - but that partially translates into bargaining power at buying time because they are not super popular new either.

For me, the new Legacy is an interesting vehicle. If it had been out when I was buying my TL I probably would have test driven it - but I think my decision ultimately would still have been to buy the TL.

Nicer looking car than the other Subaru vehicles in the past. It's not my type of car, but if I was a family man. I think I might have considered that as one of my choices. I give Subaru credit for designing for the new sexy look, so I give it a

I think 5.4 is pushing it a bit, more like 5.8 or 5.9, right around the 6MT TL range. I think you'd be nuts getting rid of a TL for a GT, unless you NEED AWD. You would be taking a step down.

I drove the Legacy GT Limited - it's a sweet ride with AWD but it does lack the features of the TL and it is pretty close in price, and the clincher was also the fact that they just didn't have a competitive lease. I might get it for my wife though (the wagon) to trade up from her current Forester.

I think people are trying to look around at other cars that have similar performance numbers on the hopes that they are built better than the TL. I looked at mazda rx8, legacy gt, g35 bmw, and tl. The mazda salesman said that subies are built better than most jap cars... he included the mazda, acura, etc..

I think it looks alittle like every other car out there. A mix between a taurus and an altima. The TL has a more distinct look. Just my opinion.

It's more like 6.5. I agree you get a lot more with a TL.

It's ok, we TL'ers get the luxury that the legacy cant touch....
but TLs are slower by far

There are many cars that are faster then the TL and much cheaper, but none are as safe, sexy, and chocked with features.

I test drove a legacy GT for a few hours. It is a fast car (with MT), but I agree with others about its looks, luxury and general finess not being on par with the TL. I was also a little dissapointed with its seemingly soft suspension and turbo lag. I think it is a good alternative to a TSX, but it is certainly not in the TL league.

I also test drove this car because of the way it looks. Here is how the test drive went. I met the salesman, a bullshittin Italian. He had to jump start the car. I then drove it, got on the freeway and opened it up. Yes, it is fast but everytime I "romped" on it. hot air, not warm, hot air would come out of the A/C vents. The A/C worked fine as long as I didnt open her up. He couldnt explain why that was happening. That there turned me off plus, I would rather drive an Acura that a Subaru!

After test driving the Legacy GT, I was impressed. It was a jump from the previous gen Leg GT in size and performance. Not anywhere at par with the TL (probably not with TSX either). Subaru seemed wanting to catch up with the other big players (Honda, Toyota, Nissan) by upping the size and powerplant to keep up with the big leagues, but it seemed there was no groundbreaking technological breakthrough since they just used the 250 hp WRX turbo engine and their AWD has nothing new to offer. Apparently it was Japan's car of the year as well.
If they improved on their reliability ratings and gets better in holding their value, then maybe it will be a viable choice. (better mpg, V6 option, more reliable AWD system)

And behind it all, this is a GM product, isn't it??

I breifly considered getting a WRX STI before I came to the realization that I'm grown up. I'll confess in a minute that the Legacy GT looks good to me. But it's still a Subaru and they don't have the best resale value just yet. But it looks like they're on the right track!

I test drove a Legacy GT before I bought the TL. I liked it...the power and smoothness.....but it just didn't have much class. Anyway, I'd never buy any car with a hood scoop.......too tacky.

I test drove the Legacy GT Limited Wagon today.

I was very impressed. It is not a luxury vehicle on par with the TL, but it is a very fine sport wagon with AWD and a manual and a nice torquey motor with insane modification potential (305 hp/345 tq with approx. $2k of ECU and exhaust). It has a great interior for a Subaru. The overall fit and finish and quality of the plastic, sheet-metal and paint are good, but not on par with the TL.

The warranty is pretty weak. The local dealer is not good and wasn't willing to give me a competitive price.

I am seriously considering getting rid of my TL for one. The TL is a great car and an excellent all-around daily driver. I find myself wanting two cars in the daily driver role. The winter/hauler/bad weather daily driver and the nice weather daily driver RWD sports sedan/convertible.

A move down into a Legacy GT Wagon for low 20s in the fall would save a good 150-200/month over my TL and allow for the nice weather daily driver to come in the spring/summer of 2006. I am thinking an M3 Cab or M Roadster or maybe an M5 . . .

I don't know about you guys...but for me....Acura luxury stinks. Between the ventilation system, which the dealer supposedly took care of, and my cats....I may trade the TL in for an STi. Subarus, by the way, hold their value very well and are built with good quality. I'm sure they have the same number of rattles as my TL, too, sans the unbelievably worn out leather on my drivers seat.

I know a guy here at work with an STi. He just lost his a$$ moving from it to a TL.

High-performance cars depreciate like meteors because they are driven like race cars.

Funny you should mention smell as there is a thread on legacygt.com that mentions problems with bad odors coming from the clutch and at full throttle . . .

The lack of a frame around the side windows makes legacys extremely easy to break into. Sealing may also be a problem at high speed.

Simple stuff like this makes me steer clear.

do the door test....

close the door on an acura/honda and listen to the crisp close...then close any other car and it sounds like cheap plastic/metal crunching together.

Of course I am talking about within same price range, but you get the idea.

The SL55 that I have driven had nice sound, but it better for $150K

You guys ARE talking about the SUBURU, right? Those things can be made to be quick but they are also NOISY (rattles) you CAN NOT believe. It's not even in the same catagory as far as "near luxury". If price is ALL you are looking at, there are a LOT of choices out there with better resale than a suburu
