E-115: '07 mirrors on '06 FYI
So, I installed the 07' TL mirrors on my '06 today. It was a simple direct plug in (for the most part....see following story...). To my surprise the flashers worked.....on the drivers side!
I was looking for a good way to run the power wire to the front signal when I decided to test if the mirrors worked. It appears as if my car was pre-wired for the mirror blinkers!? Unfortunately, the passenger side does not light up at all.
In the harness by the mirrors, there is a red wire on driver's side (which was not previously connected to the '06 mirrors) and a white wire on the passenger side (which also was not previously connected to the '06 mirrors) The red wire now powers my driver's side blinkers, but the corresponding white wire doesn't power the passenger side.
I was in the process of doing a DIY writeup for this install when I stumbled upon this minor bump. I guess I will have to tap into the mirror signal and run a wire to the turn signal for the passenger side. This will be difficult because there is a harness in the door by the boot for the door jam...so it won't be easy because my passage for the wire is blocked.
I will keep you guys posted.

Install Complete
Pics are posted, but please don't consider this a DIY writeup. Just use it as a guide for your install. Hopefully I made it easier for those wishing to do this mod. Complete install takes about 1.5 hours per mirror (give or take the half hour).
Good luck!
1. Tools used: Philips and flathead screwdriver, 10mm socket from tool case and microfiber towel.
2. Remove plastic cover behind interior door handle
3. Remove screws
4.Remove bumper stop with screw
5. Remove door handle screw
.6 Remove door panel (place an object...in my case, the shipping package.....under door panel so as not stress the cables)
7. Unplug mirror connector from harness
8. Remove the clips for the plastic cover (there should be 4 total)
9. Unscrew the mirror from bolts using 10mm socket.
10. Slowly pull out old mirror
11. Clean area with microfiber towel before putting on new mirrors
12. Install mirrors and plug in connection into harness. Also, test mirror controls at this time.
13. This pink wire w/ black stripe is the LED signal power wire. The light is already grounded within the mirror housing, so just run a tap on this wire to the car's front signal wire(in my case, the rear .... because I found that way easier) to get power when the blinkers are switched on. I do not trust tapping into fuses.
Unfortunately, I was not able to get any pictures of this part of the install due to tight spaces.
14. Reinstall door panels
15. ENJOY!

Hey Slim...So just to be clear...I have an '06 as well, so I only have to custom wire the passanger side?? The driver side blinks and everything like it should? THAT'S CRAZY.
I also see you are in Sugar Land...I'm downtown. I think Bent09 and I are trying to get together one weekend to do a headlight clearing party / mod day...I would like to consider doing this mod as well.
Good job. Thank you for the pictures.

Actually, I'm not sure why the blinkers on the driver's side powered without any modification. I guess I just got lucky. I'm not sure if all '06 TL's came with this wire in the blank spot of the harness, but they were on mine. Maybe if you do this mod, you may or may not notice the same thing.
Just to be clear, I was fully prepared to tap into the turn signals for both mirrors. The driver's side just caught me by surprise.
As far as the headlight mod goes, I'm not too fond of the amber corners, but I would rather order the Type-S headlights and do a complete swap. Just my
Good luck with your plans. Modded TL's are hard to find in the Houston area compared to the others cities on this forum.

Not meaning to side track this thread, but a question for you.
On your pic #4, "remove bumper stop with screw". Do you remember/know how that metal threaded standoff (behind the door panel) is attached to the door frame? Mine is "free wheeling", as I turn the bumper stop screw, that metal threaded standoff turns as well. Just wondering if it's fixable, like by tightening a nut or something, thanks.

MB190, mine did the same thing on the passenger side.
I used a needle nose pliers and held the washer behind the door panel as I screwed the bumper stop back in. Once you hold that washer the screw will tighten enough to hold everything in place as before.
Also, use a cloth or some soft fabric against the metal portion because you will scratch the paint as you pull out your pliers. I scratched mine slightly, but no biggie.

Glad everything worked out for you. Yeah it's a PITA, but well worth the effort IMHO. It's one of those mods that make me appreciate this car so much more. BTW, pearl white is my second favorite color for the TL.

It's been a while since I did the mod, so I don't remember the color of the positive wire to tap into. All you have to do is run one wire from the harness in the door to the turn signal wire. You only need the positive wire connection because the mirror is already grounded as is. Just get some wire taps to tap the signal after you run the wire to the signal, and your good to go.

It's the same as the drivers's side. I had to run a single positive wire to the rear taillights on the passenger side and the driver's side of the car for each mirror. Just tap into the signal wire from the mirror and it will work.
Depends on which wire you connect to. I don't know if it will stay constant on with the parking lights if you connect it the parking wire. I suppose it will. But, these mirrors were designed to flash. I preferred the rear because there is no parking signal wire to worry about.
