Navi Diag Display - F-CAN Section

Greetings -
My car seems OK, I'm really just trying to learn more.

On the F-CAN section of the Navi Diag dsiplay, I see:

"Error Active" - from what I read, this means simply that a code was stored in the past. May or may not be significant. Overall result was "OK"

"ENG 12C 224" - ??

"METER 0D4 1F4" - ??

Are these meaningful? Can anyone explain what they mean or how to look them up?

Thanks!
Steve

they don't mean much I have no idea and I have nowhere to look those up. They only mean something when speaking to acura directly, they have a list.

But the Honda diagnostic equipment can read body codes.

Low voltage in a battery can set weird body codes too

I have the same error codes on my 04 TL. These errors are causing the voice recognition to not work (when I hit the 'Voice Command' button, all I get is 1/2 second of static instead of the beep) and when the 'navigation lady' is giving me directions, all I hear is horrible static.

F-CAN (Fast Controller Area Network) passes information between processors on the network. For example, the F-CAN network is used to pass charge signal between the ECM/PCM and the navigation unit for the computer cooling fan function. The F-CAN network uses a communication protocol that transmits data at 500 Kbps.

If the diagnostic screen below reads NG with the ignition switch ON (II), then diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for the F-CAN can be retrieved with the HDS (Honda Diagnostic System). The data displayed in the ID boxes is irrelevant.
My question is WHY are you messing around in your navigation diag menu? If you want to learn about your car I suggest buying a service manual. There are menus within your diag that can modify your screen settings and such that will produce UNDERSIREABLE results.

Because it's there.

Also, because the service manuals you find in PDF format are all missing the pages dealing with the Navi system.

The reason the pages are not included is because those menus are for Dealer/Factory usage only. Its your car and you are entitled to do anything you want to it. As as Acura Tech of 10 years I would advise against it but hey, what do I know?

I don't disagree to the fact that I shouldn't be in the Navi Diag, but I have a huge issue when all that information is available to me and I can retrieve it (and using the service manual, diagnose it myself) where the dealership wants to charge me $200 to do the same thing. I have a strong technical background and have fixed other issues with the car using the serivce manual, but there's no reason why the Navigation information should be removed from the service manuals...that's why I turned to the forum for help.

I was referring to the thread starter who was poking around in there for no reason other than curiosity.

Will an ODB-II scanner give me the DTC's or do I need that ultra expensive HDS?

A canOBD2 maybe but body codes are manufacturer specific. Our cars are filled with DTCs that usually are harmless. its not the greatest system for DTC storing. Based on your issues I would say your navigation unit is the root cause.

When looking at the overall Navi Daig screen (The first menu item on the left), the 'FI-ECU' and 'Meter' are both RED (and when the test is done and it usualy goes 'DING', mine goes crackle-crackle. Also, when I go into the B-CAN display, every item in there shows a RED 'FAIL', then 1 second later every item goes to a GREEN 'OK', then back to RED and repeats the cycle. In addition, in the F-CAN display, at the top is says 'RAM ERROR' above the codes given above. Does that give you any other clues? Also, when you say the Navigation Unit is the root cause, which part(s) in particular are you talking about?

Every issue I have had with voice control sound quality has been traced down to internal issues with the navigation hard drive. What year is your car?

oK so you are limited to years of vehicles you can borrow a unit from. I am sure you have a friend who has a tsx or mdx that runs a orange navi disc. I suggest you see if they will let you try their unit in your car. I am pretty sure you will find the answer to your problem that way.

Is it as simple as swapping DVD drives in the trunk? I have a friend with an 06 TL who could swap it with me.

I’m hoping you are still active here. I have an 04 TL with the exact same issue. Navi keeps downloading software when car is first started then I have to punch in the pin code every time. My fi ecu and meter are both red. Did you fix your issue and if so how? Did you swap the dvd unit? Any help is appreciated!

Check out my post from earlier this year. I sent the DVD unit in the trunk to Alpine for repair and solved reboots, stuck or lagging GPS position, as well as red FI ECU indicator in nav diagnostics. Was a relatively easy process and glad I got the car back to original working condition.
