DIY: Fitting RDX injectors into a TL/CL

well, since im going boost and needed bigger injectors, i went with rdx injector. which are $37 and 410cc.

with the tips form "MoneyPit" over on V6 performance . i was able to get my questions answered and decided to make u guys/gals a diy for those who need or are gonna need bigger injectors.

what u need:
1. stock injectors from a TLS/CLS or the top o ring from them if u have a TLP
2. safety glasses- highly recommended- debris goes everywhere
3. dremel or bench grinder- dremel was easier for me to work with
4. razor blade or sharp knife
5. gloves- those who dont like to get their hands dirty (optional)
6. dielectric grease- put on o-ring so they go in easier (optional)

lets start.

1.stock injector
Name: 1stockinjector.jpg
Views: 3930
Size: 72.6 KB

2.stock injector and rdx injector (the bottom of the stock injector (plastic nozzle protector? broke off on the bench and lost it) easy fix, go to ace hardware and get ur self an o-ring that looks the same and the others.
Name: 2stockinjectorandrdxinjector.jpg
Views: 3088
Size: 78.6 KB

3.remove rdx injector top o-ring
Name: 3removerdxtopo-ring.jpg
Views: 2450
Size: 72.9 KB

4.grind off lip and hook from the rdx injector
Name: 4grindofflipandhoodfromrdx.jpg
Views: 2565
Size: 52.2 KB

5.should look like this now
Name: 5shouldlooklikethisnow.jpg
Views: 2460
Size: 89.1 KB

6.remove bottom o-ring from the rdx injector
Name: 6removebottomrdxo-ring.jpg
Views: 2485
Size: 84.3 KB

7.cut the plastic ring (bottom of the rdx injector) in one place, and take it out CAREFULLY, ur gonna reuse it
Name: 7cutplasticringinonepoint.jpg
Views: 2541
Size: 87.4 KB

8.should look like this now.
Name: 8shouldlooklikethis.jpg
Views: 2490
Size: 89.1 KB

9.grind down the plastic o-ring that u just cut off. make it half the size.
Name: 9grinddowntheplastico-ringthatujust.jpg
Views: 2449
Size: 87.1 KB

10.place the plastic o-ring in the top grove or the rdx injector
Name: 10placetheplasticoringinthetopgrove.jpg
Views: 2468
Size: 60.1 KB

11.should look like this
Name: 11shouldlooklikethis.jpg
Views: 2546
Size: 82.5 KB

12.take off the tls/cls injector top o-ring
Name: 12takeoffthetltopo-ring.jpg
Views: 2455
Size: 83.0 KB

13 place it in the rdx injector first grove on top of the plastc o-ring that was installing in step 10
Name: 13placeitintherdxfirstgroveontopoft.jpg
Views: 2591
Size: 94.2 KB

14 A. place the two injectors side by side with the spraying end even on both. draw a line around the rdx injector, figure out where to place the line by looking at the stock injector and u will see that the stock injector has a high point all around it, right above the black o-ring.
Name: 14blacklinemarkswhatneedstobecut.jpg
Views: 2546
Size: 92.3 KB

14 B. OR u can put the tl/cl big black o-ring on the rdx injector until it sits flush with the plastic on top and then mark it. i move the big black o-ring down a bit so u can see where it has to sit flush, theirs a high spot right about the o-ring
Name: 14Aorucanputthetlbigo-ringuntilitsi.jpg
Views: 2512
Size: 66.2 KB

15.1 is where the injector bottoms out. 2 is what needs to be cut out from what was marked
Name: 151iswheretheinjectorbottomsout2isw.jpg
Views: 2458
Size: 60.8 KB

16. after its cut
Name: 16afteritscut.jpg
Views: 2490
Size: 95.5 KB

17. but big black o-ring on the rdx injector so its right below the blue plastic.
Name: 17puto-ringon.jpg
Views: 2480
Size: 69.0 KB

18. test fit. cut more if needed.

19. your gonna need to order some scion tc injector clips so u dont have to cut the factory ones. my bro can get the clips for $5-$6 at the dealership (hook up price ). only thing is that its a special orders.

now even thought the rdx injectors are shorter than the tl/cl ones. the rdx injectors are tall enough to sit in the fuel rail and seal.

not sure about the plug and play.the s2k are 360-370cc, tls/cls are 270cc, rsx-s are 310cc and the rdx are 410cc
u can get some rc injectors for the accord and their 440cc and plug and play but their $97 or so.
some work is involved in these but a whole lot cheaper.

S2000 Injectors are plug-n-play, direct replacement. 360-370 as Rajca said

here are a few pics of them installed, waiting on my scion tc clips to come in
in the 3rd pic, the black ring looks like an o ring, its not, its the plastic spacer that was cut and shaved down and then put on the top of the injector, the o-ring is on top of the plastic spacer. it seals just fine, moneypit has the same setup that i have a has but over 3k on it and no leaks. also these pics are with the fuel rail placed on top of the injectors. the rails arent bolted down yet

another thing u can do is send the fuel rails out to get bored out to 13.5mm instead of the stock 12.5mm and keep the rdx top o-ring. but then u cant put your stock injectors back in when returning the car to stock.

scion tc injector clips came in (part number- 90980-11875 housing, connector). list price is $6.32 my price was $5.06. so $34 but on clips and not having to waste time to modify the oe ones, worth it

the clip fits like a glove. im quite surprised. now i need to take the wires from the stock clip and insert them in this clip.

DIY: Switching OE clips with Scion tC clips

1. Tools: 90deg. pick, and i took a nail and grinned so it down it fits in the oe clip, ill explain when i get to that step
Name: allthetoolsuneed.jpg
Views: 2284
Size: 180.7 KB

2. i took the pick and set it behind the blue retainer so i can pop it. worked for me, u can also try to pop it at diff points. dont pull too hard or it will crack in two (happened to me the first time)
Name: popingretainerout.jpg
Views: 2271
Size: 77.2 KB

3. retainer out
Name: oewithnoclip.jpg
Views: 2279
Size: 63.6 KB

4.retainer looks like this
Name: retainerout2.jpg
Views: 2220
Size: 47.2 KB

5. to pop out the wires, the parts thats circled in red need to go up. so i took the modified nail and slip it between the wires and the thing that circled in red. then i wiggle the wire until it pops out.
Name: popingoutwires.jpg
Views: 2243
Size: 94.5 KB

6.to put the wires into the tc clip, just slide them in and tug then back a bit to make sure that they cant come out.
Name: insertwires.jpg
Views: 2336
Size: 61.0 KB

7. should look like this when done properly
Name: wiresinserted.jpg
Views: 2374
Size: 65.5 KB

8. plug the clips into the rdx injector. fits like a glove
Name: clipplugedin.jpg
Views: 2224
Size: 100.3 KB

9. all clips in
Name: allclipsin.jpg
Views: 2283
Size: 82.4 KB

10. OE clips. lost one retainer and on my first try broke one in half. no big deal since im not planning on reusing them anytime soon

Ground leads

Why is the ground lead always on the right side, not always on the right side of a given injector?

So the rear injectors have the magnetic field in the solenoid going one way, and the fronts the other.

That how it was stock, but I dont understand how that works

So which way is right? Ground wire (yellow/back) always on the right side of the clip, as in next to the part that clips.

So yellow/black is actually the circuit. The ECU actuates with ground not the hot lead.

The yel/blk is in the '1' slot on the right side of the injector.

This is actually in chapter 24 of the acura manual....except the one they sell to us ends at 23.

I just don't want to have to rip it apart to trouble shoot I'm pretty sure I have the wires correct but want to ensure that they are before trying to start the motor....

Wow. What a gem. I'm doing this for a 08 TL-S and was told to come here specifically for post 18. I'm starting to connect the dots slowly but surely with my build. Thanks!!
