F-051: DIY How to remove Center Dash Console (Video)

Hi AZine community, I know there's already a lot of information on how to remove the center Dash console on AZine, but I shot this last summer and I wanted to share some with you guys.

I hope this will help people on how to customize their 3rd Gen TL.

NOTE: You won't see any video of me removing any screws (except for center Stereo/Front console). I've been putting off the change of a bulb in the seat heater switch because I wasn't sure how to get the console apart. The timing of your video and the effort put forth in creating such should make the job much easier .

Hey I of course damaged slightly the passenger side aluminum trim (seen in video 6, called passenger side console cover).

Where can I get a replacement for this? I've searched ebay, etc, and I'm not getting the right matches. I know I can contact local junk yards, does anyone know what this thing is really called?

I spent so much time trying to figure out how to remove the dash parts to install an iPod adapter. There are so many guides on AcuraZine which are helpful, but nothing is like a youtube video - to show where to push and pull, and in which directions.

I know almost nothing about cars and I could use all the help I could get!

I need to get the gauge cluster apart to replace a bulb. Any tips on that? I didn't see any easy way to get in there. (I need the tach cluster out, not sure if they are all connected)

Thank you! I've been lurking the forums for a while but I registered finally just to post that

I've been planning to buy a 3g TL, but ones with NAVI and the Dynamic package are so rare in Canada. The only reason I wanted the navi was because the regular display seemed to have too much space and too little text.

I remember seeing the tutorial on how to move the radio/climate display down and installing a carputer in the space, but I was always weary on whether I'd have the guts to go in and take apart the centre console on a more pricey car. The wiring made sense, and I've ripped apart the centre console on my previous cars, but they were all rusting beaters so I didn't care about breaking tabs and screws on them anyways.

Now I have no worries buying a TL with no navi since I wont be as nervous ripping apart the console to do the installation.

Bravo! I installed an Ipod adapter last month and that metalic trim piece was a pain for me because I was worried about tweaking it. The other panels were pretty easy for me otherwise.

I would have been much faster if I had seen these videos. The factory manual was OK but very vague in removing those trim pieces.

If I was only trying to access (and unplug) the plug/harness behind the factory radio/cd changer, would I be able to do that after step 3 or would I have to go through the whole process of pulling out the unit?

I was able to get to that harness without removing anything. It was a tight fit, but I got it.

Great DIY...Note: I've been sucessful at getting the radio out multiple times (don't ask) without taking out either the glove box or the side panels. Just the side trims...6 screws and unplugging things...Takes me under 5 min. at this point.

Yes I'm also doing this since day 1, but for a clean removal and for people who are not use to do those things, it's better to remove the glove box

I realized I never replied on this one. To remove the gauge cluster bezel, simply grab the midle parts with your both hands and pull toward you. You'll see some movement and then you'll be able to determine where the clips are....don't worry you'll never brake anything !!!
