Interior "Green Glow"...anyone get rid of it?

Has anyone attempted to put the nix on the green lighting we have on our buttons/center console/etc?

I have replaced everything except the lower center console and radio with blue LEDs. Center console will be completed when I do some other stuff and have it apart.
Its definitely a project and there is a learning curve, but I have gotten real good at soldering and dis/re-assembly!
I had to do a lot of research on this site to accomplish it. I am trying to put together a DIY now to hopefully post soon.
PM me if you have any specific questions.
Dave

Sorry, man. I saw this request and promptly forgot about it.

Six Sig and I are contemplating a DIY on this. I have a few pics, but he is just starting out so hopefully he can supply some more details as he gets thru the project.

As I mentioned, I am not finished with the center console---radio, NAV, shifter and seat heaters remain. I can post the following teaser shots, tho:

Overhead Switches:

Driver's Window Switch:

Work In Progress:

All were taken with my POS P&S Canon--sorry for the crappy quality.

Let me know what you think!

that is amazing! Please post a DIY or photos or something to help us out with this, members have wanted to do this since 2004 and have no option but to stick with the factory bulbs.

Well, this option has always existed. It's just that it's not easy, having to disassemble and solder circuitry.

I did a full led interior swap in my Accord. It would be no different in concept. It's just a matter of dealing with any filters or coloring on the backside of switches, etc to get rid of the greenish hue. If there are any.

Looks really nice. I like the blue hue. Kinda miss it from my old TSX. Great job! I'm sure many will be waiting for the DIY.

Wow---csmeance and rockyfeller. The ELITE of AZ!
Seriously, you guys and kennedy inspired me to do this with some of the mods you have done to your cars. I am working on a solid DIY both to show off both the hard work needed to complete this mod and to help others with the same quality as you guys have provided.
OK--enough ass-kissing. Suffice to say thank you for your compliments.
cs---we traded PMs a while back regarding CarPC stuff. Any progress on the PnP touch screen module? PM me with details, please. That mod is making its way back to the top of my list.

I tried doing the module again but its not been working out well. The one I did about 2 months ago crapped out after 2 weeks, and I found out that it was the controller that burnt out. I got another one, wired it up and the next week a relay went out. I put some diodes and inline fuses along with a delay on the second one I did and that lasted for about a month. Right now its just sitting on my desk, just waiting for me to figure out what the hell is causing all these problems. Also trying to solder for me now is a PITA, keeping my hands steady is starting to be a task! If you need the stuff for a car PC, I still have about 90% of it including the modded CD drive and stuff...

the auto illumination bulbs are plug and play...you just have to see which bulb goes where...they carry different 3 sizes..

Not so sure about how "Plug and Play" these are. I tried some from Oznium.com and others have looked at SuperbrightLEDs.com and the units are physically incompatible due to size issues. It would be nice to have them made specifically for Honda/Acuras, but I just have not found them yet, I guess. My point is to buy a few of each and see if any of them fit, before investing in the whole dash. I will definitely keep looking.

I have hated that yellow'ish Honda color in most of the dash since the first night I got my car. It looks a little intimidating to take apart everything to swap those bulbs out.

So far though, I love how it looks on your dash, what you have done up to this point at least. It will only look better as you finish it out. Can't wait to see the end.

Well I have replaced the speedometer cluster bezel/ garnish /trim with UV LEDs -- pics don't come out right. FYI they are power LED -- no resistors, I think there is an LED driver that handles the high voltage. The led did not fit the VSA button. They fit fine into reset/select, max, "< >", heater(auto).

Next is amber steering wheel button. It is going to one tacky fiesta. I wish i had purchased more UVs.

BTW bright white-- looks more of a bright cool white, would be suitable for guys hating on the stock color.

As soon as I get a camera with good matrix to pick up UV color I will post a pic or two.

Gents - sorry it took me so long to follow up here. I am going to be finish work up on my old car this weekend and ordering the LEDs for the retrofit tonight.

I am ordering somewhat of a specialized LED to prohibiting the localized effect some of you are seeing. I'll be starting with the overhead panel and moving forward, with the obilgatory DIYs, of course. I am not a fan of 'plug' and play bulbs, so this will be a little custom...more to come...

What size resistors are you using? Resitors shoudl be rated for a 14.4V as alts can reach this level upon high times of draw...which, of course, will lead to a thermal death of the LED. The only way to rule out faulty circuitry would be to throw a linear regulator on the + side (aka Fairchild TO220), which will regulate at 12V (+/- 5%, depending on the manf.).

Looks great.

So what this thread is referring to is the dash/control panel lights? And in a stock TL its green!?!?

I guess another reason to get the Type-S for the red.

WOW MAN!! This has been sooo talked about for years. A number of members have ventured down this road do this and that. I think you may be the very first person to do the WHOLE interior like that, absolutely amazing. I wish I had the patience and talent to do it.

Just a question; did you get rid of the green LED in the day/night mirror? If so, how did you get to it? I've been wanting to tackle that pesky LED for awhile now. Also the red "anti-theft" LED on the radio? How do you get to that? I open the radio a bit and got scared and backtracked. I did change the HVAC "Dual" LED to blue, big difference there.

Thanks, man. It's really not as daunting as it seems...start with the easy ones and you'll gain confidence as you go along. I have DIYs for just about all of them (check the garage) with the exception of a few, and you have already done some of them, so rest assured you CAN do this.

I did not tackle the rearview mirror as I don't know how to crack it open...if you know this part of the puzzle, I can get this done.

Ok, the red anti-theft button is SIMPLE. Take some copper desolder braid and heat up the solder behind the LED...one the OE solder is soaked up, you can remove the LED...thread a new LED through the leads, and solder in to position...quite simple, really. If you need any additional info, shoot me a PM, I certainly am obliged to help you as needed seeing as how you provided so much help on the DVD install. GO FOR IT!

I replaced that radio LED while doing a bit of "reconnaissance" on the board. Unfortunately, I got the polarity wrong, so I have to turn it around.
Its funny you mentioned that green LED----I remember you talking about it in another thread. When I saw Dan's pics, that was the second thing I noticed---behind the Hazard button.
Congrats, Dan----even though I wanted to be first to complete this project! grrrrr. Hopefully, my board will be here soon so I too can claim the project as complete!
To anyone else contemplating this mod: It is more time consuming than anything else. Get yourself a Service Manual to show how to disassemble the various parts and follow the DIYs in Section G of the 3G Garage. Both Dan & I have answered numerous questions on this topic and can assist, if needed.
