Renew XM Radio for $77 or less for 12 months, Part 7
This thread, which has more than 220,000 views and 3400 posts, has been broken up into seven (7) separate threads. This one is just the most recent to spare you from days of reading. If you want to refer to the previous posts, the links are here:

Part 1
Based on the posts of successful members, I estimate these threads have saved AZ members $ 175,000 collectively. And now, back to our program which is already in progress:
First... call and make sure they are not going to auto renew you and charge your credit card. Have your radio code and call the customer service number. Tell them you want to let it expire because it's too expensive at full rates.
Then, they might offer you the $77 deal. If so, skip the rest of these steps and take it. If not, hang up after making sure it will not auto renew.
After it cancels, then call in with the script about having gotten a flyer. See the scan of the previous flyer posted HERE .
Then call the 800-682-4114 number and read the script:
SCRIPT FOLLOWS:
"Hello. My subscription to XM Radio has expired but I just got a flyer with a special offer. I would like to take advantage of this offer for $77 for a year."
The old promotion code, "zwinback", according to recent posters who secured the deal, is no longer needed. If they ask for the radio code, give that to them. They WILL ask for it because that's the only way they can turn it on. If you had, in fact, gotten a flyer, it would have your radio code printed on it so have it handy. You can always get your radio code by tuning your XM radio to channel 0.
If at first you don't succeed, try again. Most people get it on the first try but others required 2 or 3 calls to different Customer Service reps.
"Royalty Fees" are like those sneaky "Dealer Fees". They are negotiable. Many members have had success in having them waived just by refusing to pay them. Others didn't. Give it a shot. Bottom line is that the last resort customer retention reps that you end up with have a great deal of flexibility to keep you on board.
Real time traffic and weather is extra. Read the posts on this topic and negotiate what you can if you want this service
Yes, you CAN get it over and over again. Many of us are on our forth year at $77. But NOTE: This is not a front door, well known promotion. It is a quiet deal to get old customers back who have canceled. If you jump on the phone and say that you heard about this deal on the Internet/Acurazine, you might just kill the Golden Goose. Be considerate of those coming behind you.
Lastly: as you will read, the SCRIPT works. If you don't follow it, you're on your own. Take the time to read the instructions for best results.

Still a bit overwhelmed (in a good way) regarding all the entertainment options with my newly acquired TL. Tried XM for the first time last night. I only get like one XM channel on mine....no matter how I try to tune it. I'm certain this is something simple.
IS there a "trial" period that I have to activate? If so, how?

It should have been activated with your 90 day free trial. You should be able to contact the dealer or XM directly to have them send you a new activation signal.

Let me stress this again for about the 500th time: The CSRs at XM radio are operating from a computer script. Unless you say the required things as given in our SCRIPT, you will not get the $77 (or better).
Most likely, you just re-upped for 15 months at a nearly $200 price.... unless you remember to call after three months and cancel. Then you're back to square one. Maybe the $77 device will still be there and maybe it won't. Good luck.

How to add "Best of Sirius" to XM $77 deal?
How can I add "Best of Sirius" to XM $77 deal? I called XM Customer service and they had no problem to give me $77 deal for a year, but once I mention "Best of Sirius" they said that I have to pay $16.99 a month and they can't give me $77 deal for XM for a year and let me pay $4 a month extra for Best of Sirius.
Any ideas?

I have found none. I too inquried about Best Of and they gave me those same numbers. I think the way to get a "deal" is sign up for a lifetime membership that includes the Best Of.

Check Part 6 and do a search on Sirius or traffic.
I have no personal experience with either but there are numerous posts in Part 5 and 6 that deal with these topics. The links are in the first post.
Good luck.

I just renewed today at the $77 rate with the $3.99/month for XM Nav Traffic. We just got XM Nav Traffic speeds/flow in Kansas City, so it was important to me to get the same rate.

does this work for Sirius too ? anyone know the rates for sirius ? I plan on installing sirius in another car, so would like to get a good deal on it. Is there a special deal for 1st time subscribers ? i have xm now, but when I change my audio out I will probally then have to use sirius... the xm on the car is from the previous owner, not me.

Nice! Worked perfectly! Got XM Everything Plus Best of Sirius and 128K web access for $77 for the year. There is the $11 royalty fee as well but still a great deal.
I did not renew my Nav Traffic and Weather as it is sucks anyway.

Even though I asked 5 times will this include the best of Sirius and the woman said yes we will do that... they didn't. On the phone with them now (on hold). I will let you know what happens.

OK, here's another one?
Called to say I wasn't going to renew my 90 day free trial.
They didn't ask for my radio ID, name or anything?
Offered me $88.78 for 1 year or, get this, $23.05 for 5 months?
I said, "Can I take the 5-month rate ($4.61/month) for 1 year?"
They couldn't do that, she said.
What a racket!
I guess I'll wait until it expires on Thursday, and try again?

If you want to continue it after the 90 day I suggest that you let the 90 day trial expire, then call in using the script to get the deal. They are more willing to give you the deal if your subscription has expired free or otherwise.

renewed for $88 ($11) royalty fees or whatever. this was the first year i had to pay that. I just took it. 5th time I've renewed for my TL and seems to work without much issue.

i have both, sirius and xm, and i used the script in the past...now i have them both on a send invoice bill, when they do, i just call them up and tell them i want to cancel, when they put me through to the cancelation person, i tell them i have both xm and sirius and dont like the fact that you each try to charge me full price, and if i had 2 radios of one or the other then you would charge me the discounted rate for one and full for the other....they each charge me 88 total! 3rd year of that...

I figured that much. $88 a year doesn't bother me at all. We take the TL to Vegas 2-3 times a year and drive to SoCal once or so per year so it's worth the price.
So you paid $88 for both radios? Awesome!
I would never pay $15 per month or whatever lol.

Another day, another dollar saved
My XM Radio went dead on a trip to central Florida on Saturday. I didn't realize it had been a year since I last renewed.
I called 1-800-XMRADIO and pushed the button for CANCELLATION of service to get right to the retention representative.
I told her my subscription had expired but that I had received a promotional mailing (I actually did) that offered 5 months for $20. I told her I wanted to get that. She said, "No problem but we will have to start from scratch. Give me your radio ID, name, address," blah, blah.
Then she tried to nail me for $3 royalty/music fees. I balked and said "No way."
She said she had no option. (She lied). For $3, I didn't fight her. As it was, I was trying to drive, talk on the cell phone (couldn't use HFL because that wouldn't let me display the radio ID number on Channel 0), read the Radio Code to her, and drink a coffee. I was a danger to myself and others.
The, she tried to rape me with a $15 reconnection fee. That, I absolutely refused and told her to cancel the whole thing. She backed off and said that she could waive that fee (I knew that!).
Point of all this is.... if you don't know what and HOW to ask for it, you're not likely to get it. Fore warned is fore armed.

XM Renewal
My XM had expired and I got a bill, so i called to hopefully renew at $77 again (3 years). Offered me the 5 months at $20 and hesitated since I didn't want to hassle with renewing so often--she then offered 3 months except for royalty fees of less than $6. Too good to pass up so I took it and put the date in my calendar as a reminder.

I bought my 05 TL about 2 years ago. The XM radio was activated when I got the car and it's never been de-activated. I don't know if the guy that owned it before bought a lifetime subscription or what but I'm not going to call them to find out what the deal is.

lol that's insane, did you buy from a dealer or private party?
#36
Why someone would want to go through this every year is beyond me. I renewed my subscription with Best Of for just over $400 for LIFE. As long as they don't go broke when/if Howard leaves I will have service. And the last three payments are spread out to just over $100 every six months.
I can transfer to new cars once a year or up to 3 portable radios free. No Hassle with shut offs while on a trip etc... Like the Guy said in a post above, "you have to know what to ask for"...

Yea talking to them the rep told me they have a 3 year subscription offer so you may have it for 3 years. If you lucked out and got the acura/dealership code that is shared i would ride it till the car doesnt work. would be awesome if you could transfer it also hahaha.

No, you will not be automatically billed. They don't have your credit card number. It's the opposite, you will need to call them to subscribe but don't worry, they will call you to bug you to subscribe as the expiration date nears.
