Timing Belt, Water Pump Quote
I just got a quote on the timing belt/water pump maintenance from Rallye Acura. They want $1275, yikes! There's a 15% discount coupon I could use, but even with that it's $1083. Is that what this typically costs?

I didn't get the MID reminder for this service yet, but I have 102K miles. Sure I would use an indy mechanic, do you know of one in the area?
I usually use STS Tire for non-major maintenance, but they said they don't have a mechanic there who's qualified to do this service on my car. I also called my local Honda service center, but the owner won't allow them to work on Acuras.

I called two other Acura dealers and got $1095 from Valley Stream, and $956 from Smithtown. That's without discounts, so Rallye is really overpriced.
I bought my car at Rallye and have had work done there. I'm going to see if they'll meet Smithtown's price.

check out that thread. WholesalePartsGuy was having a deal for the whole timing belt kit for $295. Not sure if it's still going, but it's worth the try. So you should try sending him a PM.

I've said it before, take a trip to Central Jersey for the day. Hamilton Honda is running the special once again, $389.98 installed for the works, parts (Timing Belt, Water Pump, Drive Belt) and labor, but add $75 if TB tensioner is needed. Can't beat the deal.
I only put about 6,000 miles a year on the TL now or I'd have it done at the lower mileage, just to say the $$$$$$.

I've said it before, take a trip to Central Jersey for the day. Hamilton Honda is running the special once again, $389.98 installed for the works, parts (Timing Belt, Water Pump, Drive Belt) and labor, but add $75 if TB tensioner is needed. Can't beat the deal.
I only put about 6,000 miles a year on the TL now or I'd have it done at the lower mileage, just to say the $$$$$$.

In my Opine: You would have to be crazy to save ~100 bucks now--and risk total engine destruction when the tensioner or idler pullies fail after t-belt job
It would be like not replacing the water pump while you are there--
Yet often the shop will not suggest it- maybe they want it to fail!!
`spins ok now /not leaking`-is not- `guaranteed we will buy you an engine if it doesnt go another 105 on the tensioner`
You cant go just on phone price -which they use to lure you in- get the car apart and THEN--we found several things that need attention today and will cost an extra 500
(note that I was a service writer for years) Its called lowballing-
exactly what WRITTEN quote includes is what matters- what parts are they replacing for that price
Bringing your own parts is considered a PITA to the shops they dont make the money on parts they would usually get, which makes up a part of the profit, and are not required and will not guarantee any parts you bring-
under normal law if they provide and install a part they have to warranty parts and labor- usually 90 days
They assume that liabilty for making the parts profit--
Go in person and speak with the owner-service manager in advance- dont make an appointment then show up with a bag of parts
Should get valve adjustment about now as well
New spark plugs if not done yet
AC belt tensioner good plan too-- as long as the belts are getting replaced- make the part that forces them to operate in tension range to be as new~
Look in the phone book for auto repairing- smaller ad- private owner shop with honda acura listed in specialties- go visit them in person
Look in Meets section for ziners near you who can help or do it for you
Its not that difficult -with the right tools- does help to have done a few before

OP-I live in SE Tennessee and the Pye Acura of Chattanooga quoted me $1300, I ordered the parts for $295 from the vendor on here and have a friend, who is an indy mechanic, to do the labor for me. Although I have like 10k miles to go, I went ahead and bought the parts 
I do still need to order the pully's, as the "kit" doesn't come with them. I would definitely find an independent mechanic, mine quoted me $400 for labor. So I'm looking at $750, only because I'll throw him a tip and he's a family friend.

Last time I called and spoke to the service manager he said it included the Acura brand. If you can get it done for that price, why not? If I had 80,000 miles on my car and thought I would be keeping it for a while I'd get it done. Even if you were to sell the car, that's a $1200 job you can always say that you've already done.
