Good-Bye TL SH-AWD..

So,

I went into my local BMW dealer today to finalize my order for a 2011 535iX (choosing color, options, etc.) to take delivery in the fall. Well right there in the lot was a fully decked-out, super shiny 2011 550i. I was very curious about it so I requested a test-drive....20 minutes later: DAMN IT, I was SMITTEN! Needless to say, I came home tonight with a 550i!
So my 2+ year love affair with my 4G TL came to an end.
I came home late tonight from the dealership so I couldn't take any pictures.....however, I will post some pics tomorrow in the daylight.

Here's a few quick tidbits about it:

-exterior: graphite (dark gray)
-interior: Oyster (ivory)
-drivetrain: 8 cyl. 400 hp/450 ft-lb
-8-sp sport automatic
-Sports package: 19" wheels/per. tires/sport steering wheel/sport seats/paddle shifters
-Cold Weather Package: heated steering wheel, heated F/R seats, headlight washers
-Navigation w/40G hard drive and I-Pod adapter
-premium surround sound system--awesome!
-Dynamic Handling Package: adjustable dampers (Normal/Comfort/Sport/Sport+)
-Rear-View, Top View, Side View Cameras
-HUD display
-ventilated seats
-rear/side sun shades

Sticker price: $71K
My sales agent gave me a $3K discount for being long-time customer.
My lease is $925/month for 36 months

My short driving impression so far:
This car is a FRICKIN DREAM!
--Takes off like a Lear Jet, rides like a Bentley, corners like it's velcro'ed to the road!
--This is my 6th BMW in the last 12 years and it's hands-down the best!!

Borrowing a bmw for almost a grand a month seems a little sensless. But if that's what you wanted.....sweet.

Congrats on your pick up! Use it in good health.

Put anything down to get your payment where it's at or no?

There's a lot of "senseless" stuff you do in life. One of my best friends easily spends a grand every month on golf accessories and club fees. Life is short. Enjoy it while you're still vertical.

I agree.

Congrats Pete and we cant wait to see the pics. I saw a 2011 535i this weekend at the dealer and was in awe. The options and drivetrain you mentioned on your vehicle.........well lets just say here in Canada people pay that much a month for a lot less car.....Enjoy.

It is all realtive to your income and lifestyle choices. Hell I pay $699 for my TL AWD with 20K miles per eyar and many people I know think I'm nuts. To many a car is point A to Point B and they want it as inexpensive as possible. To the enthusiats liek us well need I saw more..

Pete,

Damn nice ride, you barely put any miles on your car and I thought for sure I would be out of my AWD before you, but best of luck!

Yes, $900+/month is a lot for a car payment. I don't deny that. But for a car of this caliber, content and thrills to offer, I feel it's worth every penny once I get behind the wheel. Besides, it's fairly common to pay $900/month just to lease a monthly parking space in downtown Chicago!

In case I forget later, I want to say that it's been great being a member of Acurazine. Thank you! As a long-time Roadfly BMW forum member, I didn't know what to expect a couple years ago when I joined, but you guys have been great! My forum "pals," KeithL, YetiTL, venom550pm, Blackura_NY, CleanCL, cp3117, princelybug, Buckvegas, et al.......I'll miss you guys! I loved sharing info. with you guys and thank you for your support when I needed help with my TL. Looks like I'm headed back to my 'ol Roadfly board soon, but I'll take a peak here once in while to see what you guys are up to.

I'm headed off to work now, but I'll try to snap a few pics of my new ride during my lunch break.

It wouldnt be as bad if you were buying the car, but I honestly couldnt see myself spending that much on a car that I have to watch how many miles I put on it, and heaven forbid someone spill something in the car.....

The rich stay richer by not blowing their money wherever, but by still trying to find bargain and sales where they can. The ones that blow their money end up like Mr.T lol.

Either way, if youre happy with your decision, which I can tell you are, then I am happy for you. I just hate to see someone leave the Acura family

I hope your job allows you to deduct some of that lease payment. Whether you can afford it or not, you loose money on a lease if you're going to keep the car for more then 2-3 years.

I was never quite sure why you didn't buy a Bimmer from the start. Good luck.

There is a level of performance and luxury at which Acura does not have anything to compete, and I think you just found it.

:-)

If that is the kind of car you wanted, you have been graduated away from the Honda fold.

There have been a lot of debates about what a luxury car is or is not on this forum. Pete's purchase just defined luxury perfectly.

Excellent choice.

i am not knocking is his choice of vehicle by any means. I am however knocking the way the vehicle was acquired. I honestly dont understand the lease option. Why not just purchase the vehicle?

Are you selling anything off your TL? The Takeda Intake? Wheels? Grill? Anything?

PM me if so - I'd be interested.

When it comes to cars some might say I am the king of senseless. However, the new 5 is sweet; I can only imagine what the 550 is?!

I can't say that i would ever drop that kind of payment personally, but congrats to you pete. Now GET THOSE PICS UP!

BTW, Are we starting to see a trend here or what?

If he's got the cheddar, who cares how he chooses to spread it on his sandwich?

Gorgeous car, Pete. I wouldn't mind an update post after the winter to let me know how she handled with snow tires. Good luck!

Yea I also would like updates here somehow about how the car rides over time, especially after the winter.

I don't know what car I'll be looking at in 2-3 years but the 5 will definitely in the running.

Congrats PeteTL or should I write Pete550i?

Enjoy your ride, enjoy the nice summer and life in general! What you chose is an awesome choice. One of my bro friend leased a 550i in late 2009 early 2010 and he fell in love with it.

To fellow posters: BTW, I'm in Canada and a TL SH-AWD cost me close to a grand a month to buy the car over 5 years...

You lucky americans should enjoy the great prices you get compared to us, poor canadians...

Congratz Pete! Very nice choice!

When you get a chance and have settled in with your new 550i after a few weeks, post an update on your daily driving experience and how it compares, er.... compared to the 4G TL (ie. cabin comfort for driver and passengers, driver's footwell space, power, driving dynamics, how it handles bumps/imperfections in the road, real life MPG, utility).

While the dollar is almost equal right now, the MSRP on products in Canada are 20%-30% higher on many products. The MSRP is set that way by manufacturers because of the fluctuation of the US vs the Canadian $.

We're on par or close to the US dollar right now..0,9719 $ USD/ 1 $ CDN so as you can see, we pay 30-40 % more if we include sales taxes (Québec got 12,87 % sale tax right now...going up 1% in January 2011)...
