JLC Lighting DRL LED with Module for '09-'12 TL
Just finished testing there full 12V DRL LED with module. It is also error free on the MID since they modify the resistor. I am using there 18 chip SMD LED instead of the 64 chip SMD. Picture are color corrected and white balanced. I will test these out for a week and see if there any problem or what not. So here are the pictures. Let me know what you and and if you have questions. Special thanks to Jacky and Luis at JLC Lighting for doing a prototype set up for the 09-12 TL
Comparison of the DRL LED (Left) and Halogen (Right)
Left DRL 18 Chip SMD at full 12V - Right DRL 18 Chip SMD at 80% full power.
To fix that we added a relay for both left and right and bypass error message on MID
Full 12V

Brightness is about the same as the regular halogen. BUT the reason why it is the same brightness on the LED in full 12V and the regular 6V halogen is because on our high beam there is a shield in front of it to prevent glaring on opposite direction. ONLY way to make it very bright is to take your headlamp apart and disassemble the headlamp and take out the shield from the high beam. Then instead of using SMD, you will need CREE LED. CREE is very bright. CREE LED bulb also have a built in heat sink prevent overheating. T
So there is an alternative way to make it very bright for the DRL.
I will do that in a month or so for this conversion.

hmm.. so all you did was add a relay to make it 12v?
mind helpin me do this? im local hahaha i already have LED DRL's but its not that bright.. i think at highbeam mode its running at 80% only..

I've got those CREE bulbs, but it looks like the housing opening needs to be enlarged ever so slightly to fit these bad boys in there
On another note, I've got the CREE bulbs in my turn signals and backup lights, and they are bright!

Oscar it is plug and play. Just plug in the socket onto the module and from the module plug in the socket into the bulb. But the configuration on the RL and new 09-12 TL is different. It have to do with the resistor load. I'm not too 100% sure since I'm not rocket scientist. So I will ask my friend later today because I asked about the RL and said they have a different module than this one that they run into my car.

It's not as bright as your high beam since LED does not draw that much heat. BUT if you were to use CREE LED then yes it would be comparable or maybe less than the high beam.
No because the module act as a booster to draw a full 12V and the relay act as a back up to by pass the error message to the MID. I could be wrong. It might be the other way around LOL. All I know is that for the 09-12 the module is a totally new set up. I know this module is different for the 3G TL, 2G TSX and maybe for the 2G RL
Just a side note. You also noticed that I added an additional Slimline LED DRL on the bumper as well. The color on those is about 4000K - 5000K. The DRL LED on the headlamps is around 6000K. So the kelvin rate between the bumper and headlamp are totally different. So the DRL LED on the headlamp have a small tint of bluish white to it.

Looks like the JLC LED's are the best setup out there? Looks like there is only 1 kind of DRL LED's sold by JLC for the 09-12 TL, is that true or is there different ones out there?

I know V LED and iJDMtoys have similar type of the module but from what I heard, it tends to get hot and burnt out. I'm not trying to advertise JLC are the best LED out there. There are other company you can trust base on your brand identity. But I actually asked JLC to make these set up for the 09-12 TL but the old DRL LED module that they had for the 07-08 doesn't work for the 09-12. So they did some trial and error on my car for months. Then they finally did some modification on the old module and make it possible for full 12V output and by pass the error message on the MID. I'll give it a week to see if there any problem on my DRL LED. So far nothing wrong or no burnt wire.

interesting..
i have ijdmtoy test theirs out on my car a few months back.. i was actually the first one they have tested it.. took them a few days to get it going.. but from what i understand its not full 12v power
now what im very interested is how it looks like just with those DRL's on.. with your slimline DRL, i cant really tell how bright your DRL's are..

Car looks awesome, how did u get the roof of your car black, I didnt think the TL had white with black roof's. What kind of lights are those at the bottom by the fog lights u have on, they look like the LED's on a Mercedes? Where did u get them from?

I know USR is coming up with a LED bulb with a built in module so you dont have to wire an external module to cancel the DRL warning inside....
I dont know how the testing is coming along but I can have USR comment on the thread

That would be great! Definitely (USR, too) keep us posted on this self-contained LED bulb with module. Thanks!
